Reviews of Pascoe Vale, VIC

"Lots of parks and walking trails"

We moved here from the inner north as we were looking for more space and greenery. There are great walking trails in Pascoe Vale such as Westbreen creek and Moonee Ponds creek, all very dog friendly.

The area is relatively quiet and has a friendly, diverse community. Cafe options are improving, no great pubs or nightlife but it’s a quick easy drive to Brunswick or Moonee Ponds. Only 20 mins into the city on the train and the craigieburn line is very frequent during peak hour. Good access to the freeway also.

Only negative is noise pollution in some parts (around Gaffney st) due to proximity to Essendon airport but not enough to bother most people.

"Great for single and couple but I felt not that child friendly or for long term when you want to plan for family."

I've lived in Pascoe Vale for 5 years (2014 - 2019). I had my first child there so this suburb would always have a special place in my heart. There are always good and bad pockets in all suburbs but since I used to live closer to the main road (Pascoe Vale Road), my experience is more `diverse` and `colourful`.

The good:
Very close proximity to CBD. I could drive from Pascoe Vale to CBD without speeding and traffic within 15 - 20 minutes which is great plus.
Close to Airport means cheaper to go there by Taxi (around $33).
I like the new Coles in Gaffney Street.
Great for first home buyer to set the foot to the market (maybe not anymore?)
It's relatively safe(r)

The bad:
Infrastructure development seems neglected. Two notable development within the five years I've lived in, the Oakpark swimming pool and maternity centre.
Pizza, kebabs and roast chicken dominates the food option. There's very limited options for food and unfortunately a lot of restaurants in uber eats don't deliver to Pascoe Vale. I tend to go to Monnee Ponds, Coburg, North Melbourne, Fitsroy.
Lack of shopping centres/malls, the closest family friendly is high point. Otherwise you'll need to go to Broadmeadows Central.
In Airport, it's could be hard to find taxi that would drive you to Pascoe Vale since it's too close.
The Pascoe Vale road is often filled with drag racer at night since it's straight road. Someone got killed doing this in 2016 (google `Chef killed in fiery Melbourne crash during suspected street race`)
Two suburbs out, and you're in wild neighborhoods (Jacana, Broadmeadows and the like). Within the five years we lived there, there were two shootings in Glenroy (google `Gunman on the run after 34-year-old shot outside Melbourne home` as one of them).
Those tiny cardboard townhouses with cheap rent seems to attract dodgy people. I had my neighbour house inspected for drugs at 5am in the morning.
NBN wasn't available for the duration of my stay.
They only have one train line each way. When there's defective train, people will quickly pile up due to density. Bus replacement from North Melbourne was crazy and it'll take you at least 1.5 hours to get to Pascoe Vale. Better get picked up as Taxy and Uber would quickly run out.
Personal experience: Over hearing group of female teenagers on the train sharing experience arrested by police...(this was the deciding factor that got me to sell my property and moved to east)

"Wonderful Area"

I lived in Pascoe Vale for about 5 years, I kept my place there so I will go back in time. I loved the parks, I had so many options to walk my dog. I used the train heaps to go to the city and all the AFL Footy Games. I was just off Gaffney Street station near the shops, I found it very hand having the pharmacy and supermarket there. I visited many times for a drink the Pascoe Vale Hotel and the RSL.
It was not even 5 mins drive to Scully's which is now an IGA, in Lloyd Street Strathmore. I got all my fruit and veggies from there. Their deli area was excellent. It is 8 mins drive to Keilor Rd Niddrie restaurants or Essendon or Moonee Ponds restaurants. I watched a few local footy games at Strathmore Footy Club, which I often walked to. I rode my bike often on the bike trail that takes you along the Merri Creek and I walked the dog along here too. 5 Mins away from the DFO. In Summer there is the Pascoe Vale Swimming Pool or you can drive 5 mins to Oak Park to the larger pools.
My nieces went to Pascoe Vale Girls School and it was an amazing school. I went there many times. There is great Primary schools here, I found all my neighbors to be really friendly.

"Only good thing is it's location to CBD."

I lived in Pascoe Vale for three years and the only positive thing I have to say about it is it's location. Very close to the CBD makes it an attractive option and its about the only thing I miss about it.

Majority of the new establishments in the area is being developed into tiny townhouses with developers obviously looking to make a quick buck. I lived in a townhouse that felt like it was made out of cardboard.

Food options are shocking and you'll need to drive to Coburg or Preston if you want any decent meals otherwise it's just pizza or kebabs. Apart from IGA express the nearest Coles or Wollies is in Coburg.

Poor open spaces, taking my dog for a walk in the streets of Pascoe Vale felt unsafe and it is not a family friendly suburb. It will continue to rise in price because of its proximity to the CBD and the airport.

Expect low flying noisy planes due to proximity to the Essendon airport and few jets going all the way to Tulla.

Not sure how long ago you lived here, but there has always been a Coles in Pascoe Vale. It was once a smaller one but now is one of their flagship stores on the corner on Gaffney and Sussex St and it is so busy that they literally need to build another next to it to cope with demand!
Food options have improved over the last couple of years. There are a lot more caf/coffee joints in the area that are actually worth going to. Would agree that there is still too much pizza or kebabs going on, but there are places opening that are either improving those offerings, or adding something new.
If you don't like air traffic, you won't like a lot of suburbs near here. But there are some parts of Pascoe Vale where the air traffic is very minimal. None of the planes that fly over Pascoe Vale go to Tulla. They are just the big cargo jets landing at Essendon.
Area is pretty family friendly considering the number of schools in the area, but yes, the public amenities need to be improved. I actually feel pretty safe at night around here because unlike every other suburb in Melbourne, there is not one pub in Pascoe Vale (just the RSL only which is inconvenient to get to) so there aren't a lot of drunks prowling around on weekends which is great!

"An affordable and safe suburb close to Melbourne city"

Have been living in this area for over two years and have seen it change to become more and more trendy with more townhouses popping up everywhere. So many more cafes and eateries have opened up around the place. The neighbours are friendly, and it’s very safe and quiet. Nothing like taking the dog for a walk at the many parks scattered around. City link takes you to the city within minutes, the airport is a 20 min drive and you can drive to the happening and busy suburbs of Brunswick so easily but still away from the noise and crowd living there. The train is a 30 min ride into the city! You’ve got Strathmore high school next door - if you’re lucky enough to be in the zone. Love this area and think it’s the perfect place for young families. In my opinion, this is a gem compared to the south east suburbs which are so far from the city, and constantly congested.

"Not a public place to enjoy around, terrible roads, no nightlife,"

I have been living here for 2 years. It is far from east suburbs. I don't like the culture around here (at least neighbour suburbs); sometimes I see mean people. very bad roads, and terrible connections. There are two points to connect the suburb to Pascoe Vale St. These are always congested by long traffic lights, long closed road for train crossing (at 8:40am) it takes 6 minutes before the boomgate opens. Poor cars need repair every year for the roads here.

"Undervalued but remarkable area, central safe location & amazing accessibility"

Lived in Pascoe Vale my whole life since I was 5 years old. My parents had the luxury of letting us go for walks without worrying. Will be a doctor next year and I am so fortunate to be close to all the major hospitals in Melbourne as Pascoe Vale is one of the few suburbs in Melbourne that can access every major freeway in 10 mins or less (except Eastern FWY which is disconnected from Melbourne anyhow). Safe, quiet&friendly. Downside - lack of supermarkets, places to eat - but this is an advantage as there is no 24 hour McDonalds, no shops open late - which increases the safety. 12 minutes to CBD 11 mins to Docklands 14 minutes to airport. Zone 1 Train/Buses. Much cheaper than the east - much more accessible - amazing roads to get home - never have to worry about traffic - multiple options. Flemington Racecourse, Melbourne Showgrounds, Moonee Valley Racecourse, Sydney Road, Lygon St, Brunswick St nearby. All major regional towns accessible - Geelong, Ballarat & Bendigo! What more could you want. Melbourne culture + accessibility = Pascoe Vale :)

Pascoe Vale is close to Coburg. Very close to tullamarine airport. I have a friend who lives in Pascoe Vale and she is an air hostess so i guess it is perfect for her as she is so close to work. There are always buses running along the main road every 15 min. Not too far from shops and there are plenty of schools around

"Pascoe Vale is an amazing place to raise your kids"

I've lived in Pascoe Vale most of my life, and I love it here. It's very close to the city, without having to pay Canterbury style premium prices. I also think it's one of the friendlies of all suburbs as well, we know a lot of people in Pascoe Vale.

It's a very quiet suburb, not much in the way of traffic, and everyone is very friendly, even Greg at the local Caltex knows my name :) The staff at the local bottle shop on Cumberland Road are extremely friendly as well...just goes to show that there are family and neighborly suburbs still around in Melbourne.

If you're looking for a place to raise the kids or retire on a good wicket, don't look past Pascoe Vale!
