Reviews of Peeramon, QLD

"Peeramon...a place not a town"

peeramon is one of the less wet areas of the wet part of the tablelands. situated around the quarry mountain of mt quincan. it is close to the towns of atherton, malanda and yungaburra. 2 hours (when you get all the red lights) from the cairns international airport. if it gets too wet for you then not more than an hours travel you can head west for the dry country of herberton, chilligoe and beyond. if it gets to cold for you then you can head for the beaches of cairns or mission beach areas.

great for tropical fruits and wild life. if you are a wildlife photographer or artistic photographer then the opportunities at your doorstep are bountiful:

there are many local clubs and societies from forest rehabilitation, plant clubs, sports clubs, art clubs and opportunities to go with these. there are many schools in the local area and school buses that branch off in many directions to these. the local towns have sporting fascilities like atherton with it's heated swimming pool.

there are local markets every weekend at the various towns. tourism and mining are important for the area as well as a high retired population. the town of peeramon was once a timber town (as well as most of this area) but there is no timber industry anymore however the historical pub still exists and runs. the area is surounded by remnant rainforest, dairy and cropping. many lakes and waterfalls are close by for nature lovers and recreational sports such as boating, bush walking, safe swimming, picnics and the wonderful wildlife if you take the time to sit and watch.

the cost of housing is high but may drop. you cannot grow apples and brussel sprouts but you can grow many tropical varieties of fruits and vegies. mangos for example do not grow in this area but with in an hours drive there are paddocks of them dripping with fruit, as well as bananas, avocados. citrus trees produce abundantly. if you prefer natural forest then tree kangaroos can be among the many surprises you will see in your garden. sunbirds will make nests and rear their young outside your kitchen window, frogs of all shapes and sizes become regulars to window sills. and the list goes on.

Great for

  • It is green, clean and friendly
  • Plenty of vets close by for your pets

Not great for

  • Can be wet and miserable
  • The shell back ticks can kill your pets if you are not vigilent
