Reviews of Raleigh St, Windsor

"Transport rich"

With six St Kilda Road tram routes and the Punt Road bus within 200 metres, and the Prahran and Windsor railway stations with their 10 minute peak hour frequency trains within a kilometre, Raleigh St Windsor 3181 is ideally suited to the busy inner suburban professional.

A mix of terraces dating back to 1885, one renovated and three unrenovated and ugly 1950s/1960s private sector tenanted blocks and flats and some Office of Housing government-housing concentrated at the eastern end on the south side, Raleigh St does not have the most attractive streetscape of any Windsor street. However, it is surprisingly quiet and little used as a 'rat-run' by drivers connecting from High St into Punt Rd.

Its gutters are heavily angled making parking annoyingly difficult, but this little inconvenience is more than compensated for by the thousands of dollars some canny residents save by using mass transit instead of private vehicles. It is possible to live without a car in inner Melbourne, Australia!

Property prices have escalated sharply with a typical two-bedroom 1900 terrace on 150 square metres of land selling for around $700,000, compared with $150,000 in 1995.
