Reviews of Roslyn Gds, Rushcutters Bay

"cosmopolitan living (yeah right .......)"

Basically i was residing among the tree lined streets of Roslyn Gardens in a apartment, and i found that it all looks nice (on the surface).

But the area is very small area, lots of people living in the area. however it is not that nice of a place to live...

Sure the location isn't to far from the city, about (10-15 min in a taxi one way, depends on traffic, if it is bad maybe about 30min) but it is less then 1.5k from the city)

And it is a stone trow away from the eastern suburbs like Double bay and so on. (which you can only get to if you drive!)

Sydney's public transport is shockingly bad...( it is never on time and is slow or may not show up at all)

but the area is filled with Junkies, prostitutes, drug busts, hold up's. and big street crime...

the area is very expensive to live in ,so expensive in fact you might just find the apartment block you live in might have other tenants sharing with 12 other people in a 2 bedroom apartment just to share the cost of living in sydney..... In a such a expensive place you think you wouldn't find any other this.. but you do ..(which is very common within the area)... and the cbd.

yes it is nice to look at when driving though the area, but thats all on the surface..
however you may find the odd nice people among the mix that live within this area...but that is like finding a needle in a haystack... people who live here are generally rude because it is the eastern suburbs.

But unless you plan on catching a lot of taxi's to and from places. (which isn't cheap).
then this area is most likely not for you.

Also plan on eating out a lot, due to the crappy kitchens in the units of these apartments ..then this is the place for you... (generally you will find most apartments have small crappy kitchen which is not fit for heating up soup).

If you need to live here, really look around good coz most landlords will charge whatever they want because they know a lot of people want to live here, some places are okay value most are not..

you will also find that most of the units are only good unless your spending big $$$ a week just to live there with a kitchen that is fit for cooking... basically it means that these are other costs you will need to factor into your weekly budget. (even then the kitchen's in these units are generally kitchenett's (basically means a sink and a bar fridge).

So careful of that if you seek a place within the area.

this area is a really old area too which means a lot of old mansions were converted into apartments.. and typically they haven't been set out or designed nice, and also do not come with air-con or heating. so that means you need to BYO heating and air-cooling system.

So if you love living next prostitutes and druggies ,people who share a 2 bed room apartment with 12 other people , and you also like paying big $$$$$$ for this then great move right in waste your money and don't save a cent.....
have fun living in your drug infested hell hole... this place is no better then Blacktown. This review also applies to most of the inner east and city. like kings cross, Potts point and Elizabeth bay. (any inner city suburb)

So to sum it all up, Very very expensive to live in, small apartments with crappy kitchens and location isn't really all that close to the city. if your walking it may take about 20-30minutes one way and return about 40- to 60minutes depends on your speed.

so your not really getting much value for your money living here, eating out isn't cheap here, supermarkets are super expensive here, and you have the famous Kings cross down the road, where it has it's nudie bars, and brothels and prostitutes...

so really don't move here if you are looking to save money so you can buy your own home, coz you won't save a cent living here..among all the noise and traffic.

Great for

  • Living close to prostitutes
  • Living close to drugs and street crime
  • Living close to some crappy cafe's

Not great for

  • Bending mugged in broad day light
  • Having people in the street as your for a dollar
  • Living next to loud people

As you say "a lot of people want to live here " and there must a reason why. I am one of them and won't move out. Colourful, vibrant and people around you all the time and friendly. Close to everything, train service that connects with other parts of the city very well. 15 mins to the airport.
Sure property is hard to find and at the top end price wise and some of it can be in slightly better condition....but I’ve paid more, for worse, in places like Port Hedland and WA in general. So, I’m not sure why this reviewer has such a downer on an area that is probably the most populated area per square KM in the whole of Australia....which again, says something for it.

You couldn't have said it better this area is rubbish. Lived nearby in darling Point and hated it for the same reasons. Finding a nice normal person in this area was like needle in the haystack!
