"Great place to live"

Rydalmere is great for access to Epping, Rhodes, Macquarie Centre, Homebush, and there is ferries to Circular Quay in 5 minutes walk. A few minutes drive to Western Sydney University. Very close to Ermington shopping center for Woolworth, bottle shop, doctors, cafes, ATOs etc. And there is a good sized Aldi 2 minutes drive away. Don’t forget a wonderful large park by the river for walking, biking or dog walking. Very friendly neighbors, good schools, what else safe and comfortable suburb.
If your house is on the top of the hill, you will find a new life every day by seeing the beautiful and green scenery. I love this area and with the opening of the light rail this year, Rydalmere would be one of the best suburbs in Sydney.

"Great for families"

Safe, parks down the river and so close to other great family orientated suburbs. Rydalmere, Ermington and Dundas are all quite similar and are great for family. Just need to avoid a few public housing but mostly harmless anyway.

"Family oriented suburb in Sydney's northwest but let down by drawbacks"

As far as I am concerned, Rydalmere's proximity to major transport hubs such as Parramatta, Carlingford and Epping makes it an excellent suburb. Even though it doesn't have its own train services, transport is well serviced with frequent buses running east and southbound. In addition, it is a very family friendly suburb, with leafy environs and fairly good schools. In those two respects, I would recommend it for professionals and families. However, one major drawback is that retail shops and restaurants are in no way nearby (I am aware of local shops at Ermington, but they are insufficient for daily needs). Also, this suburb is hardly identifiable, even though it is located near major strategic centres in Sydney. Its unknown neighbouring suburbs, namely Camellia, Ermington, Dundas, etc. do not help much either.

"central to everywhere, quiet, lots of transport"

I have lived in Rydalmere for 20 years, its a tiny suburb with heaps of public transport to get you everywhere in Sydney.
Its quiet and peaceful and the parks near the river are a great place to exercise, cycle or just kick the ball around.

There are both Catholic/Public schools in the area, and the high schools are just a bus ride away.
You have the bus stops throughout the area, ferry and Rydalmere Station which not really much use but the buses make up for it.

People in this area keep to themselves, there is housing commission however in 20 years have never had any issues, at times there are people walking passed late at night but nothing concerning.

The local shops are very close at Ermington which has everything there, Supermarket/bottle shop/Dr's/chemist/Newsagent etc.

Recently some really good cafes have opened up in the area, which makes it really easy to get your daily coffee.

Rentals in Rydalmere

"decent subrub"

I have been to Rydalmere quite a few times days and nights and fortunately i couldn't find anything wrong specially in the context of housing commission. The property market is booming and there is a lot of apartments construction going on and to buy one of those one needs to be financially strong and i guess HC people won't be able to afford this. That's the reason you will notice in the future these people are/will be moving out of these places due to the affordability crisis and also govt. is cleaning off this area by getting rid of some part of not so good demographics..
And off course Parramatta greater region is expanding this one falls under this as well.

The apartment prices are sky rocketing due to its strategic location especially it maintains a great balance between Parramatta and northern side of Sydney i.e Ryde, Epping and so on.

Great for

  • Great location
  • In the heart of city
  • Close to everything

"Friendly suburb"

Having lived in Rydalmere for 20+ years and with my parents still residing in the suburb, I can say what a great suburb this is. Many memories growing up as a child from great neighbours, high school only a 10 minute walk away, St Johns Park and the reserve/bush like setting that it offered. Shops and stations are very accessible giving you easy, fast and reliable services to access Parramatta and Sydney CBD's plus the University My parents continue to live in Rydalmere due to its quiet location and the overall friendliness of neighbours is great, I remember the Street parties that used to be held yearly since I was 8 years old.

Great for

  • Friendly neighbours
  • Lots of young families

Do you know if they still hold these street parties? I'm trying to find 'Sydney's Friendliest Street' for a story.
Thanks.

I haven't lived in the particular Street who did Street parties for over 5 years now but speaking with old friends from the Street, they still do yes.

"A suburb with two Identies"

Rydalmere is great for access to most of Sydney. Trains, busses, ferries are all available. It is close to UWS (for students), close to Eastwood and Homebush (for great food shopping), and only 5 minutes from Parramatta.
It is important to note that Rydalmere North of Victoria Road is different to the South-side. South there is a lot of housing commission, so quite a few kids wandering round. Ermington shopping centre (as featured on "Houso's") is on the South-side
North of Victoria Road is the quiet, friendly suburb that is probably one of the best kept secrets in Sydney.

Great for

  • Lots of young families
  • Friendly neighbours
  • Great bakery

Hi, am looking at an apartment on Park Rd for my sister who has just relocated from Perth. She is working in Surry Hills and I'm wondering how far the nearest train station would be on foot. Is this part of Rydalmere OK? Thanks so much
