Scotland Island, NSW 2105

This is a fantastic place to live. I'm a single mum and have never had a moment when it's all seems too much. Yes, it can be difficult at times but the benefits far outweigh the negatives. If you are after a healthy life that is wonderfully safe for your children and/or quiet, peaceful and inspiring, then the island is where you can find all of that. I've lived here for years but regularly travel. My neighbors keep an eye on both my house and my boat without ever asking anything in return. Having said that we all totally respect privacy.

There are plenty of services to make life a bit easier. We do have tank water however, have easy access to emergency town water, whenever needed (bookings required). There is a community vehicle that can pick up any heavy or large items that need transportation to your house. The ferry service runs each hour until 730pm and with extra services during peak times. There is the water taxi service between 6am and midnight. We also have an accredited kindergarten and other childcare services.

I've heard at times stupid and ignorant comments about the people that live on Scotland Island. They are simply not true, we have plenty of highly respected artists, actors and novelists living beside teachers, financiers, pilots, lawyers and other respected professionals. .This eclectic mix is one of the wonderful things about living here.

There are plenty of community events if you feel inclined, ie concerts, bbqs, art exhibitions, sailing clubs etc. While we don't have any shops on the island, there is a general store/cafe and post office where the ferry departs from at Church Point.

On my side of the island (southern) I have absolutely no problem with mobile reception.

PS.... I also have only ever seen 1 funnel web and I'm regularly in my garden.

This is community living, a stones throw from Sydney.

I was born in this suburb and have a hesitance to let everyone know of its existence.

It has: Boat only access, small town mentality, no commercial shops (at all), no mobile reception, dirt roads, bugs (highest concentration of funnel web spiders in the world), no facilities at all, tank water supply and septic systems only. Not to mention having to carry all of your shopping up to your house all the time (generally through pouring rain).

That is what is so good about this suburb.

If your child skins his/her ankle riding their pushbike, a neighbor will walk them to your door.

If your boat is sinking because you haven't bailed it out during the last two days rains, your neighbor will probably have done it for you.

Just make sure you look after your neighbor :)
