Reviews of Sir Garnet Road, Surrey Hills

"Sir Garnet Road in Surrey Hills is a quiet, tree lined street with close proximity to all transport modes. The local Union Road Village precinct offers shopping with an excellent choice of cafe's and two bakeries."

Surrey Hills is 11km East of Melbourne's CBD. Sir Garnet Road's Pin Oak trees mainly line this lovely and quiet street meeting overhead and offering a shady vista in Summer. There is an asphalt footpath on the north side of the street and attractive bluestone guttering bordering the asphalt road as it follows a gently incline to the east. Period houses are a feature with well manicured gardens. There is a good mix of young families, families with adult children and mature age residents. A freindly neighbourhood with regular dog walkers and joggers often passing a friendly greeting. The south side of Sir Garnet Rd. has no footpath and features a wide grassed reserve midway (earlier in 1900's fenced off to keep horses and sheep). Surrey Hills meets Canterbury at its Chatham Road intersection and is just 300 metres from the point where the suburbs of Surrey Hills, Canterbury and Balwyn meet on Mont Albert Road.

Sir Garnet Road intersects at its western end with Chatham Road and is one street north of Canterbury Sports Ground (Australian Rules Football and Cricket with turf wicket), Four tennis courts and two children's playgrounds. Canterbury and a District Kindergarten borders the park all being connected by laneways to both Chatham Railway station to the south and to Mont Albert Road and the local Milk Bar to the north. Sir Garnet a Road is walking distance to the village shopping centres of Maling Road, Canterbury and Union Road, Surrey Hills. Balwyn shopping strip is situated approx. 1km NW. If you enjoy a leisurely walk, take the picturesque path north from Mont Albert Road through John August Reserve, Canterbury (off-lead for dogs) which leads to Balwyn Library, shopping strip and Whitehorse Rd. tram. Sir Garnet Rd. is walking distance and in the school zones for Chatham Primary School and Camberwell High School, both having excellent educational reputations.
