"Rough area"

New houses and developments does not validate an excuse for how rough this area is, sorry to say. Yes it's close to your local needs and yes there is cheap housing but I would rather feel safe in my area than constantly on edge in fear of being stabbed, bashed or worse. Same goes for its surrounding areas. Would recommend you check out Walkley Heights if you want a much safer and cheap option in the northern suburbs.

"Unsafe - Cheap option."

I’ve lived here for 10 years. What’s happened? Our car got lit on fire, we have been robbed, and we have been crashed into (by a car). The SAME house. The greatest thing about Smithfield? Public transport! Absolutely convenient. Very cheap housing. If you plan to live here, please consider setting up a big gate, fencing, cameras, a bulldog, martial art skills, a bulletproof vest and bodyguards. It should be worth it if you are looking for an affordable house with decent public transport and shopping facilities.

Haha, I just LOVE how your writing bad reviews about northern suburbs when you constantly brag in your comments that the south is worse! It gets funnier every time!

realityb

I don't brag I present facts. As I have said previously certain Northern, Western and Southern suburbs have major crime and unemployment problems. Don't worry I'll be doing reviews on southern suburbs in the near future.

Cant wait to see you brag about how bad the southern suburbs are too.

"Crappy suburb surrounded by crappy suburbs"

There isn't much to say about Smithfield in positive terms, really. Located almost 45-50 minutes out of the CBD, Smithfield is a northern suburb of Adelaide and as the "northern suburbs" rings a bell, is a full-on crappy suburb. Giving it a rank of even 206th best area in Adelaide is beyond me. Smithfield is infested with crime. Definitely wouldn't let kids play out of the front of homes at pretty much anytime of the day, let alone night time! Gangs and hoons also seem to enjoy causing trouble to the area as well, obviously making the area worse. What's worse is that you have to be on-edge every time you step out of your front door in Smithfield. No, it isn't a stereotypical behaviour of the area; it's the truth. Loud and argumentative neighbours also seem to make sleeping at night very frustrating, even with loud parties and cars screaming past your home all hours of the night. The layout of the newer parts of Smithfield is very bland and boring, houses have no beautiful green strips or gardens to impress passbyers. Your pretty much lucky there isn't, actually, since it would deceive the area of being something like friendly, safe, and very quiet in which it is not. But anyway. There are some good shopping options in Smithfield, with Elizabeth City Centre at Elizabeth, Munno Para Shopping City at Smithfield, Hollywood Plaza at Salisbury Downs, Blakeview shops and Parabanks Shopping Centre at Salisbury. Just be weary of late-night shopping coming across with very "interesting" and loud-mouthed people on some nights. Public transport running along Main North Road and back into the city. Schools are pretty average such as Salisbury High School, Trinity College and amongst others. I know a few people who have kids and don't even bother sending their kids to schools in the northern suburbs since they've heard of all the bad things that happen there, and often send their kids to schools 40 minutes to even one hour away.

Now you know the truth, what's the point in living here? It's dangerous and sketchy enough as it is and the other northern suburbs that surround it such as Davoren Park, Andrews Farm, Munno Para/Munno Para West, Smithfield Plains, etc etc, are just as bad as Smithfield. Only good things around here are the shopping options, public transport and cheap housing. Other than that, move somewhere more decent. Inner and outer southern suburbs are ten times better, inner northern suburbs fairly good as well but has some crime issues in some of its areas, eastern and western suburbs are pretty good as well, and what's good about it is that there are cheap housing in most areas where it is quiet, peaceful, extremely safe and friendly. Anyways, hope this helps!

Suburbviewer I can agree that Smithfield and every suburb that is connected to that area has lots of crime, anti social problems and high unemployment. HOWEVER some southern suburbs have the equivalent problems, massive issues in morphetvale, hackam, Seaford rise, Port Noarlunga I could go on. Why in the last few days the police are trying to find youths that have thrown bricks at cars from the overpass from the South road extension. And then gangs that are bashing people when they stop their car . All in the south so please be fair not bias. Southern suburbs have in my opinion some worse areas than the North. So please.... hey

thesuburbreviewer25
thesuburbreviewer25

Ok, maybe I should have been a bit biased when it comes to the north and south. Yeah there are definitely crappy suburbs south as well like Hackham West, Morphett Vale and Christie Downs (Port Noarlunga? Seaford Rise? Not according to Homely). But, Im sorry. These areas are nothing compared to Smithfield and surrounds, in my opinion. Yes, Ive seen those youth gangs on the news this week down south but at no point have I seen more crime happen in the south than I have compared to the north. And I live north so Im not really biased when it comes to this. North is far worse than south, and I can back that up by hundreds of comments from forums like this and the millions of people that live in Adelaide.

Exactly, I could ask you the same question as to why Elizabeth is always ranked as the number one hotspot for assaults and crime gang in SA and always in the top 5 in Australia whereas there is no southern suburb listed there.

Gang bashings and bricks being throws and cars and houses (just crime in common) is definitely far more common in the north than south, just check the crime statistics and FACTS.

thesuburbreviewer25
thesuburbreviewer25

I apologise, I was supposed to say fair instead of biased.

realityb

Gang bashings and brick being thrown off major overpasses that is extremely serious not just crime in common. Absolutely shocking and could be fatal. I noticed you gave Christie's a 5 Star rating, no way mate that is not a fair review. My opinion North have Bronx South have Bronx West have bronx . Can't really 5 Star a South Bronx suburb.

thesuburbreviewer25
thesuburbreviewer25

I think youve completely missed the point. ANY crime in common is extremely serious! You wouldnt like it if some person ransacked your house in the dead of night and threatened you with a knife wouldnt you? Nobody in this world would. Ive heard many stories of that happen north compared to south. Once again, I LIVE north.

I have to say, with the Christie Downs rating, I wrote that review before I even knew it was a bad area so you can attack me on that because I was giving an honest view and your just so offended about it.

Why are you all of a sudden being so dramatic about whats SUDDENLY happening down south? I probably heard something about that happening in that area over a year ago now. For you to all of a sudden point out these crime activities happening down south does not mean its getting worse, but rather, to IMPROVE on it so then it wont happen again. Ive heard that story MANY times in the northern suburbs, and NOTHING has improved! Get your FACTS right before you start attacking someone.

thesuburbreviewer25
thesuburbreviewer25

You cant attack me*

realityb

Im not attacking you. Im pointing out that you need to be fair with your reviews that's all. I agree with you that Elizabeth ,Smithfield ect are shocking areas that I wouldn't step foot in and that the southern suburbs have just as many problem areas that's all. You live in the North there are some ok suburbs there . The western suburbs have some shockers like the Port and surrounding areas. The government poured a billion into that area and failed, now they are spending a billion in Elizabeth and surrounding areas and it could turn out to be another fail.

thesuburbreviewer25
thesuburbreviewer25

And I dont completely disagree with you that there are some good areas north such as Walkley Heights, Northgate, Golden Grove and Oakden. But to be honest the inner north have some crime issues which isnt comparable at all to inner south. Kilburn is shocking!
I agree with you in some aspects but no. The bad areas down south arent as shocking as the north. Yes of course there are issues down the southern areas which are known for being bad that also happen in the north to, just not to an extreme extent like the northern suburbs.

Lived in area for 26 years, constantly evolving, great council, all necessary services within easy access either by car, public transport or walking. Central between Barossa & Adelaide. Schools surrounding area. Parks. Nursing home facilities. Cost of rates very reasonable.

I could be wrong here but most of them live someplace else.We knew of a Doctor that worked in that part of town but actually lives in Walkerville.

markd22

This is only because the doctors with overseas MBBS qualifications cannot work in the metro area. I can bet a million dollars, they'll run away, given the choice.
