Spalding, SA 5454

A very small peaceful town, but big in spirit, Spalding is surrounded by picturesque highly productive seed and grain farms, and horse, sheep and cattle breeding and grazing country. It is home to families and singles, retirees and employees of local windfarms, farm service contractors, apiarists, slate and gravel quarries, small engineering and fabrication businesses and commuters to nearby larger towns.
The town is well catered for with its true country pub with great meals, regular live music and fundraising social club, as well as many summer and winter sporting clubs, central park with playground and bbq, excellent swimming and toddler pools, and permits available for peaceful river fishing. There is an Aust Post Office, Pre-School and Primary School, general store with fuel and gas supplies, council office, a visiting doctor and district nurses, mobile library, resident local cop, fire station, RAA mechanic and plenty of other useful and friendly locals.
A passenger bus service to Adelaide runs through Spalding a few times per week (daily to nearby towns). Taxis and limited community transport services can be booked from Jamestown and Clare.
It is less than 1/2 hr drive to the tourist attractions, wineries, art galleries, local produce outlets and dining, employment, secondary and further education, professionals, retailers, dealerships, medical practices and hospitals and other businesses and services in Clare, Burra, Jamestown and Crystal Brook, or 1 hour to all that Pt Pirie has to offer.
It is close enough to make an easy day trip to Adelaide, or a weekend in the Flinders, Riverland, Eyre and Yorke Peninsula or the Copper Triangle. Travellers to the outback and WA from Adelaide or the eastern states often stopover in the area, meaning there are good opportunities for tourism providers; the only B&B in Spalding and the basic accommodation at the pub are well-patronised., especially when the annual Spalding Rodeo or regular fly-fishing comps are on, when motoring and cycling events have a stopover, or during the nearby Clare Gourmet Food & Wine Weekend, horseracing and cross-country events, or Day on the Green, Bundaleer Weekend and other musical events.
Who needs expensive real estate when a mostly relaxing, often entertaining and potentially very fulfilling lifestyle can be found within the rolling hills and quiet streets of this character-filled township?
