"Great location"

St Arnaud is in an ideal location, close to a city, but just enough out of the city to be classed as a small country town.
The people here are very welcoming, and there are plenty of homes going on the market at the moment.

The town is quiet, very clean, just an all round good town to live if you are looking for something a little more quiet.

"Lovely town, clique locals."

Very pretty town with the heritage and greenery, schools, shops, doctors, places to eat , very clean and very safe. We loved it when we moved here, a few years later we left, locals too busy complaining about everything and they don't welcome outsiders very well. Small town Syndrome Bad. Public Transport is not the best either. A lot of residents simply move on.

"A hard nut to crack for an "outsider"."

The town of St Arnaud is visually a pretty one, with its history deeply implanted within the 1850's gold rush. The buildings in St Arnaud are mostly from that time and are pretty much as they were back then. The town offers a good supermarket, library, swimming pool, many churches. It has a hospital, doctors surgery and chemist. The town is well serviced for most things you would need and you dont have to leave town to get them. Employment is thin on the ground unless you are in the loop and are related to a local you wont get much of a look in for work. Townsfolk are pleasant enough but view an outsider with suspicion. House prices are very affordable and there are some gems to be had within the property market in St Arnaud. There are much worse places to live, but unless you have a "key" into the local community, such as a child at school etc then this might not be the place for you.

Rentals in St Arnaud

"Nice Place"

Last time I went to St Arnaud was to buy diesel in the middle of the night, hidden in the backstreets is a self serve 24 hour unmanned servo run by a card reading machine, lifesaver!

Nice friendly town a bit over an hour west of Bendigo, a few pubs and a swimming pool, fairly relaxed place. Years ago bikies used to go there every so often to the pubs, but stayed well behaved. I have no idea if this still occurs. The houses are cheap, many are quite nice, though there are a few dumps of houses too. I would consider St Arnaud if I could.

Great for

  • Cheap
  • Friendly

"A place to raise children"

St Arnaud is a reasonably small town, but with excellent facilities including a well stocked library and local swimming pool.
There are excellent doctors and hospital, numerous sporting clubs for children to join, current movies are shown in the town hall.
Most children seem to walk to school. Nights are quiet and neighbours friendly.
St Arnaud has an excellent supermarket and specialist fruiterer and butcher. An attendant, at either of the in town petrol stations, fills your car with fuel and is happy to check your oil, water and tyres and change over windscreen wipers, if necessary.
There are three pubs - all of which serve meals, some of the pubs run their own social club for patrons. There is The Sporting Club, up at the trotting track/football ground that runs a variety of functions including the local Country Music club.
Other shops include haberdashery, ladies clothing, mens clothing, toy shop, sports shop, Chemist, shoe shop, computer and video shop, cafes and bakery, hardware and building supplies - effectively, all you need in right in town. Okay, they do shut at 12 on Saturdays, (except the supermarket which is open Saturday and Sunday) but you learn to organise yourself or wait till Monday.
There are welcoming BBQs for new arrivals in town. There is a Christmas parade every year that local buisnesses and sporting club build and run their own float. The Festival of St Arnaud runs every year for a weekend in November. The St Arnaud show still runs every year, and local children are encouraged to submit entries into a variety of areas (craft, horticulture, design).
There are two primary schools, one Government, one Catholic and one high school.
Transport, without a car is a bit iffy, but most places in town are walking distance or a short taxi ride. St Arnaud is waiting for the passenger line to Mildura to reopen which hopefully will stop in St Arnaud. There are buses to Bendigo & Ballarat, and a community run bus to Ararat.
All in all, St Arnaud is a lovely safe place to raise children.
