"Unsafe Area"

I have lived in St. Kilda East for roughly 5 years, and I have noticed that it is particularly unsafe. Gangs roam the streets and hobos who are definitely not pleasant.

"As exciting as brushing your teeth, but liveable."

Only lived in St Kilda east for a few years, but found it ... satisfactory. St Kilda's more chilled, safer but far less interesting sister.
Was and easy, safe, friendly place to live. Does nothing great, but also nothing bad, its very liveable. Enough cafes/shops/restaurants to keep you happy, but you will still want to explore elsewhere to find great food/drink.
I found it very walkable, which was great because parking and traffic is terrible.
PT is OK (for Melbourne standards), but don't expect a short tram ride to the city. Get your walking boots on on walk to the station.
Over all, it's livable, not exciting, but far from boring.

"The quiet little sister of St Kilda"

St Kilda East is a great little pocket, nestled between Balaclava and St Kilda - it is the quiet little sister of the busy hub 'next door'. Think cafes, parks and tree lined streets - not far from local supermarkets and with plenty of public transport options, St Kilda East will be easy to call home. Enjoy the lifestyle!

Rentals in St Kilda East

"Stunning St Kilda East!"

I have lived in St Kilda East for a few years now and I have to say it's a great area for all. Close to Public Transport, Chapel Street, Parks, The Bay and loads of Schools. I would highly recommend St Kilda East to anyone looking to move to the south east of Melbourne.

"Everything is off the honor system, for better & for worse"

Imagine going into a time portal to pre-WW2 Europe, St Kilda East is known for its large Hasidic Jewish community. Now, the pro's are massive, everything is based off the honor system. So if you love a safe area where the people are very trusting, religious & generally pretty kind, not to mention good capital growth. St Kilda East can be a sensational area to live. On the other hand, it is so easy to steal stuff or take advantage of gullible unsuspecting locals (like I can't stress enough, the honor system). If your a hardcore religious person of any non-Abrahamic faith, I'd also strongly recommend to steer clear of this suburb.

  • Low crime rate
  • Honor System
  • Inkerman St. shopping strip
  • Lifestyle
  • Parks

  • Gullible people

"A quiet little pocket of creativity and possibilities."

St Kilda East is a fantastic little pocket of parks, cafe's, train stations, art deco apartments, houses and town residences full of artistic and professional types. St Kilda East sits between the Nepean Highway and Orrong Road and is bordered by Dandenong Road to the north and Glen Eira Road to the south. It's the precinct also known as Balaclava. The best coffee in Melbourne can be found on Carlisle Street along with a great variety of dining options. It is impossible to get bored in St Kilda East. There are beautiful parks, playgrounds, quirky shops and the beach is a twenty minute walk. It's a family friendly neighbourhood, although at night there is a more colourful side of life that emerges. All walks of life live in harmony in St Kilda East. I've lived in St Kilda East for around 7 years and I love that it's quiet but full of opportunity and creative people with positive energy. It's very friendly and very eclectic. Oh, did I mention the best coffee in town is in St Kilda East?
