Reviews of Sterling Drive, Keilor East

"A busy street, but don't let that put you off. Affordable house prices and close enough to everything."

I have grown up in Sterling Drive and am now back with my parents while we look for a place to buy. It's a friendly area, but Sterling Drive is a long road (that's had the addition of speed hump installations to slow down traffic) that suffers from a heavy traffic flow. The blocks are big blocks, so the sound is not an issue. Parts of Sterling drive are directly under the Tullamarine 34L runway, so it gets very noisy especially when Jumbo's fly overhead at all times of night. If you are a light sleeper then avoid it. It is serviced by the 406 bus that heads to Footscray and down to the Avondale Heights shops. It is close to milleara road which you can catch the 465 to Milleara Mall shopping centre. You could walk to Milleara Mall in about 20 minutes from most parts of Sterling Drive. Alot of the street backs onto a frieight train line, so this would be shocking to hear at night as they are quite loud and rumble along. You wouldn't live here if you didn't own a car. It's definitely only suited to families with 2 cars. That said, It's affordable, and they have big blocks with big backyards. It's about 45 minutes in peak hour traffic to the city along the CityLink (30 minutes in non peak hour). Childcare options are great, medical facilities and Milleara Mall or Centreway have all the shops you need. There is also a small strip of shops in Dinah Parade. Overland Primary school was closed down by the Kennett Government years ago, and then Milleara primary school in Avondale Heights. Now the closest one is Keilor Park which is in Keilor East, and about 2 to 3km away. The street is very ethnic which I've enjoyed, mostly Greek and Italian ethnicities. If you can handle the noise of the planes, by all means it's a nice place to live for the price range of 450K to 550K for a 3 bedroom house.
