"Near-perfect blend of country atmosphere and city sophistication"

Moved to Stirling in March 2009. My wife & I have always wanted to live here, it's our favourite part of the Adelaide Hills. Stirling has a very English feel, with the main street having an middle-upper class village look and feel. It's as if someone transported a small part of the Cotswolds to Australia and plonked it down in the middle of the Adelaide Hills.

Unlike much of the Adelaide Hills where Australian natives reign supreme, Stirling is dominated with European-style deciduous foliage. The cool, damp climate seems to suit this type of flora better than almost anywhere else in South Australia.

Stirling is deceptively close to the Adelaide CBD. During off-peak periods, it can take as little as 15 minutes to travel from the centre of Adelaide to the main street of Stirling. Despite this, it feels as though Stirling might as well be in another country.

The main street provides a huge range of goods and services, and there is a reasonably diverse range of foods and eateries available. Much of these are clearly aimed at the upper classes, such as a relatively high number of upmarket cafes and organic stores for such a small population, but there are also competent budget options available. The Stirling Hotel is a highlight, good quality meals that are reasonably priced, all in a nice atmosphere. The social hub of Stirling.

Schools are good, public transport is adequate, the locals are friendly, the internet is fast and reliable and mobile phone reception is better than in many parts of the Adelaide Hills.

A couple of observations I have made in my short time here are (a) there are a lot of people that walk regularly here, no matter what the weather and (b) there seems to be less overweight people in Stirling than in other parts of Adelaide. I'm guessing the combination of breathtaking scenery and hilly terrain makes it relatively easy to keep fit.

One of the biggest myths about Stirling is that all the houses here cost > $1m. Whilst there are quite a few rambling country manors that run to the $3m+ mark, if you don't mind living a little further away from the main street in a house that needs a little work (or is quite small), you may get change from $500k.

So yes, I highly recommend Stirling as a great place to visit (especially on the Sundays when the Organic Market is on, or during the Tour Down Under). I recommend it even more as a great place to live.

"Most liveable suburb in Adelaide"

Everything is green and slightly magical. Truely 4 seasons. Lovely neighbors and a community feel that can’t be beat. Everyone looks after each other. The public schools are great- kids can walk to school and ride their bikes. It’s 15 minutes from town, 5 minutes from wineries, and a main town street with everything you need. It has some great restaurants and eating spots. Everyone walks everywhere. The streets are always clean and houses are on big blocks.

"A perfect combination of city life in the country"

Very close to the Adelaide CBD (15 minutes drive) yet in another world. Near enough to 600m above sea level. Lush gardens. Towering old trees. A small town but with everything you could want. Supermarkets. Gourmet food. Fantastic pub. A delightful place. All age groups. Lots of kids and teenagers. Young adults, middle aged and aged. The library is phenominal as is the rest of the town and its surrounded by 1000's of acres of market gardens, orchards and possible the best wines in the world.

Rentals in Stirling

"Country life with city access"

We love Stirling. I was transferred to Adelaide from New York for work reasons and my family fell instantly in love with the Adelaide Hills. Stirling was the standout district for us, such an unbelievable lifestyle so close to the Adelaide CBD. We are currently leasing an executive residence but are looking to buy in one of the blue ribbon streets - maybe Birch Drive or the awesome Rostrevor Road. If we can find a house, we hope to never go back to the States!

My wife loves the ambiance of the locality. She says she never needs to visit the city. The shops and cafes are world class and the weather is stunning. My teenage children are very active and love to bike and walk around the district. Our new dog loves it too. I couldn't recommend Stirling more highly.

"If I can afford it, I will be there"

Up the Freeway, Stirling has a high price for buyers. But there is good reason. This is one of the premier suburbs of Adelaide. Wonderful scenery, amazing tree lined streets and some amazing homes,
However, Stirling is going to beyond the reach of most people.

Its easy to get into the city from Stirling, there is public transport but its not as good as some areas of Adelaide.

There are some great parks and playground for the young families and schools in the area making it family friendly.

It’s also not too far from Warrawong wildlife sanctuary so there are plenty of things to do. Its not one for the people that love the nightlife, but for those that like a more relaxed lifestyle.

"A lovely spot nestled in the Adelaide Hills and close to the CBD"

Stirling is a stunning town, situated in the Adelaide Hills just an easy 20 minute drive from the centre of Adelaide.

Tucked away in a hilly and leafy area, the town is full of stately homes and mansions built many years ago by the old and wealthy families of Adelaide who needed a summer-house to escape the heat.

The town has developed in to a charming spot, with a number of coffee shops and cafés, as well as the recently renovated Stirling Pub.

With a true sense of character and charm, Stirling is a beautiful spot to live and is so close to the city too.
