"Typical small, rural town"

A small town based near to the Maroondah Highway and Goulburn River, Acheron sits over 100 kilometres from Melbourne city centre. Remembered as one of the towns affected by the 1939 Black Friday bushfires, Acheron was developed following the discovery of gold in 1870. Like many rural towns, it is home to a small number of local businesses including a caravan park, an art gallery and a bedroom furniture design store. Neighbouring areas include Taggerty, Thornton, Alexandra and Whanregarwen.
