"Great town, Nice People, Excellent facilities, but Crime becoming a problem."

My wife and I have raised our family in Tamworth, having lived here for over 23 years. It has evolved into a beautiful city.We have had progressive leaders in council. This has led to a beautiful main street ( Peel St). Leafy, relaxing and a joy to shop in. It has outstanding sporting facilities Many of our sporting facilities are equal or better than a capital city. Generally people are welcoming and friendly. Maybe this comes from the influx of thousands of tourists during the two week festival in January. the surrounding countryside is beautiful, from the hills that are on the eastern side to the plains to the west. Our hospital is being upgraded soon, and a new cancer center is nearly complete. Medically Tamworth will be of a high standard, but GP's are needed as there is a shortage, although with the new facilities this should improve.
Tamworth is being badly affected by an increasing rate of crime. Unfortunately there seems to be a dramatic increase in the amount of older teens without jobs, wandering around town and taking opportunities to break and enter. It seems to be a trend across Australia. Break and enters are common, and can occur anywhere in the city. Mostly opportunistic crime, but a real problem.
The young people are told not to do it again, but they know the system well, and exploit it to the maximum.

Great for

  • Sporting facilities
  • Beautiful main street
  • Education centres
  • Equine centre
  • Friendliness and acceptance

Not great for

  • Unemployed or truant youth
  • Additional aquatic centre needed
  • Crime

"Health, Wealth and Opportunity in the region."

Tamworth has a variety of entertainment, venues and a healthy lifestyle. New estate/house land packages have market prices that are higher than average. Some new land house packaged estates are designed with cramping that it totally unnecessary given the availability of land in the subdivisions prior to allotment and population growth. Airtravel to& from Tamworth is exorbidant in comparison to other regional air flights and costs that the coastal populations are use to. More areas could become leafy suburbs especially low economic areas that generally are neglected by councils. More rural GP's are needed in these areas to boost the provision of medical services. The health service is stretched, esp given the average age of the population. The outskirts of Tamworth are beautiful and lap the New England escarpment which provides a plethora of areas to visit and enjoy on weekends and outings. The people are welcoming, very sociable and always friendly & helpful. There are many work opportunities for the willing, skilled, professional and experienced tradespeople.

Great for

  • Equine centre
  • Education centres
  • Friendliness and acceptance

Not great for

  • Additional aquatic centre needed
  • National parks are distant from the city.
  • Excessive hours for alcohol venues.

"Great large town with lots of opportunity, heritage history and prosperity"

My family and I moved up here after living in Sydney for so many years. With cost of living being such a big issue in Sydney and affordability was no longer an option, we moved to this town in the beginning of the year.
Every thing is so close by from shops to cafes and restaurants as well as hardware stores in the industrial part of Tamworth.
There are many casual events that come by from events in the Music Conservatorium to the annual Country Music Festival that comes every year.
Would highly recommend

"Beautiful Tamworth"

Great lifestyle. City living with country benefits. All amenities for all ages - hospitals, shops, parks, cinemas, bowling, sports grounds, swimming pools, eateries, walking tracks, bike tracks, airport, beautiful people- to mention a few. Many people talk about safety - it is like anywhere in the world - with bit of common sense and mutual respect, it is very safe.♥️

Rentals in Tamworth

"Choose East Tamworth for better neighbours"

Great town to raise your kids. Very safe and leafy in East Tamworth. The whole town seems a lot drier and less green than 20 years ago, so it feels a lot more like a hot country town than the lush green valley of yesterday. Most of the health and education professionals want an East Tamworth house, so you'll see immediately that the houses here are much more expensive than South and West. Obviously, the kids are less wild here, so crime is much less a problem than in South Tamworth. Great city at the moment for investors - rents in East are very good for the entry price - much better yields than you'll ever find in Sydney.

Great for

  • Excellent rental yield
  • Education centres
  • Friendliness and acceptance

Not great for

  • Can be very dull if you're single
  • Non-professionals and non-tradies could struggle for work
  • Unemployed or truant youth

"Best for families or country lovers"

Unfortunately, I was only able to stay in Tamworth for four months before making the decision to leave. As a single, professional young female with no children I found it very difficult to create a social circle, and the high level of the crime completely ruined the experience for me. Job prospects are mediocre to poor for professionals unless you're in the health industry.

Agreed, is a very closed off community. I had some lovely interactions with the elderly folk in day to day travels, passing them and say "G'day", but other than that I find them fairly rude. Crime is on the rise, yes. And my sights are set on moving to back to Brissy after 4 years here.

Crime mostly break and entering. There are quite a lot of domestic violence type crime, I'm guessing these are the same losers who break and enter as well. Most of the crimes occur in the West and South Tamworth where the lower socio-economics located.

Wow Stereotyping much Mr Im Perfect? DV and break and enter happen in every type of family, not just with housos. Have some respect and stop tainting us all with the same brush!

Recommend to spend atleast one year at a place and then decide if you wish to stay or leave. Tamworth is a beautiful town with few tiny issues like any other place in the world.

"A small town - where everybody knows your name"

After 38 years in Sydney I find Tamworth very relaxing, however the biggest drawback I found when I first came here was getting a Doctor. They all seem to have closed their books. I did find one but now she is so busy one has to book a month in advance to see her.

"Country Town with everything you could need, safe and great for everyone"

We've lived near Tamworth for just under two years, the people are very friendly, housing is affordable and living just outside the city gives you the best of both worlds. Lots of shops and the main shopping street is the beautiful Peel Street which is tree lined and full of places to eat and to stop for a coffee. Friendly, safe one of the last nice places with a small town feel but has everything here you could want. Lots of housing going up so lots of work for tradies. Tamworth is ideally situated between Sydney and Brisbane.

"Tamworth - Home of Country Music in Australia"

Known as the Country Music capital of Australia, Tamworth is situated on the Peel River in the New England area of NSW. This area is rural and relies on beef, dairy, sheep and grains as well as aquaculture, olives and nuts. The town is large and has numerous shopping centres, restaurants and cafes. There are a number of hotels and nightly entertainment venues. For the sports enthusiast Tamworth has it all including but not limited to; swimming pools, 2 18 hole golf courses, playing fields, athletics track, kart, speedway and motor cross tracks, pistol range and ten pin bowling. But the big draw card is the Tamworth Country Music Festival which is held each January and is the second biggest festival of its kind in the world. Tamworth has all kinds of accommodation available to suit all budgets and tastes but remember to book really early if you intend to visit in January.

Country music is loud, can be heard all across town, encourages crime, and the obnoxious music lasts well into the night. it is terrible, and all the activities are wither small and boring, or not worth what they cost.

"Nice country town"

Tamworth claims to be the capital of country music in Australia and holds a country music festival each year. It is also on route from Sydney to Brisbane, so going either way; you are likely to stop over. There is a big hill in town which you can drive up which provides a nice view of the town from up high. There are picnic tables there to have lunch whilst gazing down in to the town.
Tamworth is a big country town and has a lot of infrastructure like TAFE, music conservatorium, etc. Plenty of pubs, motels and eateries to keep one interested so a neat place to stop over to have a look around.
