"A quiet fishing town"

This town is for people who enjoy peace and quiet and throwing a line in or a long walk along the esplanade. Plenty to do with house boat and boat hires, or go paddle boarding or kayaking at high tide. Plenty of local places to eat with the snack Shack as a personal favorite.

"Lovely town, fishing village, family friendly"

Tin Can Bay is a great place to live or visit. Boaties and fisherman love this place and one of the best things to do here is to feed the wild dolphins.
Great spot if you love the outdoors, there are also some lovely parks and a fantastic foreshore walk. Dee White Cooloola Coast Realty Rainbow Beach.

"Nature lovers paradise."

I'm an ex big city girl. I have been here for 6 years.

When I first came here I was not used to the small town mentality. You have to have strong boundaries as everyone wants to know your business. But in saying that this town has a big heart.

A lot of very old people here with a 1950's old school attitude. If you are a progressive type just ignore these people. My neighbors are horrific in this way. They don't respect boundaries and get offended and offensive if you ignore them. But they are the nosy, do gooder type.

Anyway like any place there is good and bad. Even though there are undesirables here I still feel very safe. After being here for a few years you just totally chill out.

I live on the foreshore and the view is beautiful. When you walk along the foreshore people are quite friendly.

Sunsets here are magical.

So you go to Tin Can and dump on locals there with your "higher perspective". Says a lot about you. Tin Can is sure to be nicer with people like you.

I agree with happyc. I visited family in Tin Can Bay a few years ago. This place is God's waiting room. The people are backward and then there are ferals.
The only thing going for it is the bay. Nice place to visit but I wouldn't want to live there.

"A small fishing village"

Tin Can Bay or TCB is a great quiet town. Great climate and safe for kids. Do not move here for shopping .....none, nightlife......none,crime......very little and of minor nature. But if you love the outdoors, you and your family will fall in love with TCB.

"A small town - where everybody knows you name"

Despite the lack of retail therapy opportunities available in Tin Can Bay, unless of course you are into the regional markets circuit where bargains and rarities abound, this little piece of Paradise has a stunning natural beauty that compensates for everything it lacks.
The soft, beautiful sunrises & magnificent sunsets, the shimmering bay and the native bushland that surrounds us, never ceases to impress & amaze everyone that comes here.
Tin Can Bay is only a short boat trip to Fraser Island, in fact I have been there on a kayak, but of course you can sail or motor there.
Fresh seafood straight from the boats or, catch your own; absolutely succulent and delicious to eat
prawns, fish scallops, crabs & by the bay, at home or in a restaurant - the Black Cockatoo for instance - the best seafood and NOT expensive.
There is a sense of peace and tranquility here in Tin Can Bay, easy going people and the best climate. See you in Tin Can Bay soon.

Rentals in Tin Can Bay

"Tree change lifestyle with coastal benefits"

I think Wallu is beautiful, the neighbours are friendly and rally behind each other. It is peacefull and safe. There is a nice mix of families and retirees. With all of Wally being small acreage yet only 10klms from Tin Can Bay it is the ideal Tree Change destination with all the Sea Change benefits thrown in as well. Property prices here are still reasonable compared with other areas of the Sunshine Coast hinterland, you can definately get a lot of bang for your buck here. With bus services for the children to get them to and from school and only a short drive to either Tin Can Bay, Rainbow Beach or Gympie and the Sunshine Coast it is a great place to live.

"Overpriced Realestate"

Rental prices are low, but sale prices grossly over valued given the location and lack of facilities in the area. Employment is all but none-existant with the main employers in the area being the Laminex Factory, Wollworths or smaller grocers who have reliable and long-term staff. Huge amounts for sale, properties look to be staying on the market for excessively long periods of time without chage in prices.

Long term residents are fantastic are friendly, there seems to be a very high turn over of "less pleasant" persons in the area though, the cost of living being a great deal lower than most country towns appears to attract those dependant on government handouts and not self-motivation.

Drugs whilst not obviously available are present and occassionally cause rows in rental properties (we lived next door to such persons)

Kids parks are lovely and maintained, BBQ facilities rarely work and its a really nice are for fishing - though persons setting crab-pots be wary that thefts are a nightly occurence and the police are powerless to intervene.

People seem incappable of controlling their pets (dogs) and they are often seen wandering without their owners.

Gee this is a harsh reflection on Tin Can Bay! Were you living in Cooloola Cove or TCB? Employment is hard to come by but Gympie is only 35 mins away!

beckelljess

agree with IkoDwyer.. for a start drugs are everywhere .. bad neighbours are everywhere.. issues with irresponsible pet owners are everywhere too.. I can gaurantee you where I live is much worse.. in the last 2 weeks we had a naked crack head riding a bike flashing his bits at kids, cars and houses graffitied, 2 stolen cars, broken beer bottles on the road, just tonight we had 2 drunk guys fighting on our front lawn and last night 2 you g guys doing a deal on our driveway next to our letter box, our neighbour is insane and tries to smash our windows because I asked her to reduce her dogs barking late at night and early mornings, we had to install a security camera system as the police dont want to know about it, our neighbour accross the road is a drug dealer who the police frequently watch..

rewind back about 3 months.. we had a guy arrested on our front lawn after throwing a bag of powder into our garden and our yard was searched at 3am to recover his stuff so they had evidence, there was a fight over ice back in june where a fella was shot and stabbed and then ran his car through the guys house and smacked him over the head with a base ball bat..

Tin can bay sounds like bloody paradise compared to where I am.. and where I am isnt exactly cheap either..

Not everyone on government payments is lacking motivation.. some people are just genuinely in need of help for a short or longer term.. or unable to work enough or at all due to medical complications and conditions etc... they arent all bad.. not every one has a perfect and normal life, some struggle more than others and why shouldnt they be entitled to some kind of help.. this is not a third world country and no one should be cold, hungry or homeless!

Very well said....People can be so narrow minded... I happen to live on a disability pension as I have a chronic auto immune disease...being ill isn't fun but what makes it far worse is continual judgement from others....I come from working people and I use to work fulltime before I developed health issues...

Well said beckelljess, I live on the Sunshine coast now but grew up in Melbourne in housing commission. It was hard, a tough upbringing and have seen a lot in my younger years living their where drugs and grievous crime was common place. I was in the thick of things but am now well on the other side of the fence. There are a lot of people that need help and their are plenty of people that will hang it on them to try and bring them down. Remember, the whingers are lonely and do so to bring you down to their level!! Stuff them all!
The reason I write this is I am in Tin Can at the moment and it truly is a lovely place. Trouble can be anywhere. But home is where you make it!

"Bay Style- you might call it your ideal lifestyle"

I f your driving up the highway looking for a place to live Tin Can Bay maybe the place for you. There's all types of homes available at prices you may have seen 20 years ago in Noosa.
Tin Can has all the services, doctors, dentist, IGA, Woolworths, bank and ATM's that you've come to expect.
There's employment opportunities in a variety of industries like marine(catching, processing and fixing),forestry(nursey, counting, planting, harvesting, value adding and transporting) and if you don't mind a 35 minute drive(and if your from Sydney,Melbourne or Brisbane that's not long) you could work in Gympie.
The next few years will see enormous change in TCB, some very smart developers are securing their stakes now in residential and marina developments. This is your chance.
There's a very good local school that is growing rapidly because of the numbers of families moving to the area but our future lies in Aged Care.

The bulk of the town is opposed to the Marina development and rental prices for business facility are ridiculously high. The local shopping centre has less than 50% occupancy due to the high rent.

Whilst Tin Can Bay IS a beautiful area it isnt suitable to those who are looking for work as it is few and far between. Consistent employemnt is only found in Gympie

The school is not growing rapidly, whilst funding has been provided for a new undercovered gymnasium and a kindergarden, the child-care faciliteis in the town lack grossly in professionalism and the level of care is very average and difficult to get. Enrollments are currently down and the schools reputation was broadcast on National television during the recent education reviews - it ranked as one of the 5 lowest performing school in the state.

Rent is low but this tends to attract a lot of drifters and few long-term residents. Returns on investment properties are below average and houses are over valued given the lack of facilities and invenstemnt opportunities in the area.

Lexadis thank you for your balanced opinion. It seems some are *pro development * and are talking it up with Rose coloured glasses. Your commentxestimation rings true. Thanks. Claire

Perfect Pete sounds like he is being paid to write this comment. It sounds too .well...,perfect. If you are from Sydney like me you will hate this place. The people are very small town and small minded.

"Tin Can Bay is a very small town trying to grow."

To be honest Tin Can Bay did not do a lot for me, but that is purely my opinion. It probably did not help that the tide was way out and therefore a long stretch of muddy sand leading out to the river. I have seen pictures of Tin Can Bay with the tide in and it does look lovely.

At Tin Can Bay you are allowed to hand feed the dolphins. This is a big attraction for the area as there are only 3 places in Australia where you are allowed to do this.

It is a very strong fishing area as it is on an outreach of the Mary River that heads south and the land forms a small peninsular with the river on both sides. Quite a unique set up really. It is very safe for swimming for the little ones.

There is not a lot in the way of services here and most people would travel into Gympie for anything major. Gympie is some 60 klm drive inland.

The bay is not muddy and it's 100k fro the mouth of the Mary. The area is called The Great Sandy Strait, it's surrounded by National Park and State forest and an easy way to locate it is "touching Noosa-touching Fraser Island". Read perfectpetes review he's obviously been there.

I think perfect pete is trying to sell his house and not having much luck. Nice cut and paste though.
But thanks perfect pete I will read perfect p.... hold on, you must have a clone? LOL
