Really suprised how over developed Torquay and surrounding areas have become. There are a high number of new estates being built between Geelong and Torquay, so it will end up bring like suburbia by the sea. It is nice to live by the beach but I actually think it comes with a big compromise of estate living with no back yard and your neighbour's house squashed next to yours. It depends if you like that kind of thing or not.
It's a fair commute to Melbourne and as it's getting more developed I can imagine the trains becoming extremely busy. Having said that it is a great place to visit. A good place to stay over and have a holiday before driving along the great ocean road.

Very relaxed town Awsome people the place to be

A great seaside location at the start of the Great Ocean Road. With new estates like The Quay and The Sands, it's a maximum 20 minute walk from the edge of Torquay to the centre of town. With a good mix of seniors and young families this is an enjoyable place to live. With a natural beach and parks nearby you couldn't find a better location. Residents love to walk to the shops and restaurants so it is very safe.

Moved here 4 years ago and love it ! Great people, close to Geelong and Melb ( especially the footy ! ) and some of the best beaches in Victoria. Gets a bit busy in Jan though otherwise fantastic. Land and houses are affordable and capital growth still on !

Used to be agreat place, but the developers have moved in and lots of ugly concrete boxes appearing.
The water is much too cold to swim without a wetsuit.

If you think it's an alternative to Nth NSW or QLD then you are mistaken.

Lots of bad mouthed types with new money especially footballers.

Some of the best beaches in the world, surround a lovely town with all the ammenities you need. Felix Cres is a great street close to everything.

Perfect place to holiday or retire. Perfect beach. people are all so nice and welcoming. I love the shops specially over Summer. There are a few nice restaurants and lots to do with the kids

Torquay is a beautiful spot. Situated at the start of the famous Great Ocean Road, Torquay is just 100 kilometres from Melbourne but feels like it could be 1,000 miles away.

The town is known for its famous surfing beach "Bells Beach", which has played a major part in shaping the town's relaxed culture. This beach attracts surfers from around the country and around the globe, as well as a number of surf festivals and music events.

The town has a population of nearly 7,000 and has been growing rapidly. The town offers a number of facilities, including many schools. Huge subdivisions are being built in certain areas, such as the new developments at Ocean View, but there has been quite a lot of public opposition to this.

The only real downside here is the weather - it can often be quite wild, rugged and cold.
