"Avoid Palmerston near Hugh St"

This area of Palmerston Street has many drawbacks it is noisy with the nearby ambulance station providing regular disturbance. Traffic is heavy and drainage is extremely poor leading to flooding of many homes in the area during the wet season. Crime is relatively high making it difficult to utilise the Queenslander design in many homes as you cannnot leave the casement windows open without inviting a flash and grab theft. This is exacerbated by local police who now choose to blame you for a theft if you leave the window open rather than the culprit. Bats, rats and termites are other issues you need to consider even if renting.

I was really disappointed to read your review. I think Currajong is such a wonderful area. I have never had an issue with crime, bats or rats as you have suggested. Perhaps you are writing this as you feel very disgruntled with the police over a matter. I am not sure how you can give a 2 star rating to medical facilities when you have 2 hospitals and endless specialists so close. I also find your 2 star rating of Neighbourly Spirit very sad as I have a street worth of friendly neighbours that would do anything for you. Perhaps you should come and visit down my end of Currajong.

I agree with tiger07. It does sound like you feel disgruntled with the local police because you failed to secure your property. I have lived in many different places around Townsville and Brisbane and have always secured my property, and as such, have had minimal problems with theft. It is standard practice these days to secure your property. I believe it is extremely niave to think that you can leave your home wide open and believe that you are not inviting thieves. My house has casments however when we moved in we invested in crimsafe screens that let the air and light in and keep insects, pests and criminals out. A good investment. As for bats, rats and termites, well I am sorry but they are all over Townsville. Termites will always find dead wood, so get your property checked regularly or buy a cement block home. Rats will breed where they can find refuge, so don't make your home or property friendly for rats - no problems in our area. Bats - come on? we have a colony here in Currajong? You are looking for something to whinge about.
Palmerston St is a main road, as are many throughout Townsville. I don't choose to live on a main road because I don't like traffic. The same could be said for any road in town. I also live near the ambulance station and barely hear them - I guess it's just your frame of reference. I also like the fact that if I do need help, they're not far away!
Drainage has been addressed in the last year and is much better, even in the biggest of rains, the water drains very quickly now. Newsflash, Townsville is a giant floodplain.
There are so many pluses that other residents have spoken of, don't worry about one person who just wants to have a rant because they don't know better.
