I love Verdun - it's very peaceful and the epitome of the Adelaide Hills at their best. It's spacious and full of beautiful countryside, trees and wildlife. The town itself is small but any conveniences that it lacks are readily available in Hahndorf, Mt Barker and also Adelaide. The freeway is close enough that a daily commute to the city is easily achieved, but far enough away that it doesn't disturb the tranquility of the local area.
