Medowie

"My Retirement town"

We purchased our home here to be near work and also as a "Hub" to access other areas. Medowie is virtually central to Port Stephens and all it has to offer. It is only a 20-30 minute drive in any direction to access almost anything you need in the way of shopping, holidaying, relaxing and sight-seeing. The Hunter Vineyards are a stone's throw away for concerts etc. Newcastle/ Maitland for vehicle purchases. Salamander Bay and Raymond Terrace for those groceries and specialty shops not available here.
The minimum amount of hustle and bustle here lends itself to living a relaxed and quietly enjoyable lifestyle. The odd loud party once in a while is expected yet they aren't that often to become annoying unlike other towns I've lived in. The residents are approachable and friendly, friendships are easily established as well.
Most people have their dogs on leads when walking them. In the years we've been here there have been no water restrictions as we have the Grahamstown Dam quite close which supplies our water needs. The weather is great and the area is usually punctuated with the aromas of BBQs on weekends.
Traffic is light in comparison to other towns and cities and is usually well behaved with minimal accidents. Cycling is a safe pastime around here and walking is easy on well made footpaths in the newer part of town.
All in all, Medowie is a nice quiet place to live and to feel 'at home' in yet it lends itself to being a great home base to explore the rest of the NSW Central and Mid North Coast areas from with the newly upgraded Pacific Highway being only minutes from here. Newcastle Airport is close by and it offers services to most of Australia.
We'll be happy if Developers leave Medowie OFF it's hit list and let us remain the nice country like recluse we are.

  • Proximity to Newcastle/ Hunter Valley
  • Secluded enough to be country lifestyle.
  • As yet no close density or highrise residential development.
  • The excellent Primary Schools
  • The natural bush and native animals
  • The people

Not great for

  • Roads need some dire attention in places.
  • Medowie Rd needs to be confined to vehicles 5 tonne and less.
  • There is talk of confined mass residential areas by some developers
  • No High School

Who lives here?

  • Professionals
  • Singles
  • Families with kids

can you please identify which would be the newer part of town ? a couple of street names for example, or boundary of this area ? and has there been any more discussion (recent March 2015) of any developers considering Medowie for mass residential ? Thank you.

Medowie does have a high school in Medowie Christian School which is now a Prep - Year 12 campus . It's a safe, caring and well performing school with modern facilities and innovative programming.
