Strathaird Boulevard

"Upperclass ghetto"

I was a bit reluctant about living in Smithfield but Playford Waters is pretty nice and usually quiet.

There is some graffiti (not on houses or fences though) and I wouldn’t walk around the area at night but there is no domestic fights or dogs barking like I had when I had my house in Davoren Park. I live near the curve of Strathaird Blvd so some people think it’s ‘cool’ to try and take the corner a bit too fast which usually ends with hoon behaviour. Mine and several of the other cars around the area were egged one night but that is the only real issue I have had in the 2 years of living here.

There is a lot of immigrants around here (my family and my neighbours 2 doors down are the only white Australians on the street). I rarely see my neighbours (not that it really matters because they don’t speak very good English).

Within walking distance of the Smithfield train station and the trains run close to my house but I don’t even notice the noise.
There is a small park with a pitiful playground but there is a large lake with ducks that my daughter and I visit regularly. The park is also well paved for jogging around.

If I was to buy another house I would buy on this street, but I’d make sure I had roller shutters and a double garage.

Great for

  • Ducks in the local pond
  • Paved sidewalks
  • Close to public transport

Not great for

  • Lots of Immigrants
  • Some hoons on weekends
  • Poorly lit around the park

"Cheap living"

I lived here for 2 years while i was studying, because it was down the road from the pub there was alot of drunk people walking past yelling and dropping drinks, there was alot of litter in my front yard from items thrown out of cars. i worried alot about my car being stolen but this house is all i could afford on a student wage. i liked being close to the shops though.
