Woodville North

"Really positive"

We bought a house in Woodville North in early 2010 and, truthfully, we absolutely love it here! (1) Location, location, location. Socially, we're 10 mins from the city, West Beach, Port Adelaide and Semaphore. For shopping, Centro Arndale on Torrens Rd is 2 mins away, Welland Shopping Centre on Port Rd is 5 mins, Bunnings, Harvey Norman and Mitre 10 all 5 mins away, and Westfield West Lakes is 10 mins. There's a massive variety of eateries and take-away along Hanson Rd, Torrens Rd, Woodville Rd and Port Rd. All within 5 mins we've also got Woodville train station, lots of schools, kindergartens, day care, library, gym, sporting facility, tennis club, ovals, parks, playgrounds... the list goes on. (2) Investment opportunity. Everybody - I mean everybody - around is renovating and adding value to their property. Billions are also being pumped into this whole north west corridor by government and investment groups stretching from the city to Port Adelaide and everywhere in between and on either side. Just some of the massive projects include the Woodville Rd upgrade and redevelopment, Cheltenham subdivision and St Claire housing estate, housing estate projects along Hanson Rd, new rail line from Woodville Station to West Lakes shopping mall, Port Adelaide going ahead, Semaphore going ahead, a new housing estate where Footy Park is, and now a $1bn property project at Bowden as well. The whole north-west corridor along Torrens Rd and Port Rd is repeatedly claimed by town planning and investment experts to be one of the best in the whole country. (3) People. I love that it's so multicultural here, we talk to all our neighbors all the time - they're so friendly and nice, and we haven't heard of one incident of crime to anyone in the area since we moved in in early 2010.

Great for

Not great for

  • Stigma attached to the area by people in the Eastern suburbs.
  • There aren't any high value suburbs further north.

Who lives here?

I live in WoodvilleNorth and I have to agree it is a very frinedly and lovely area and people talk to you and acknowledge unlike Woodville Park which I consider not to be a good area.

Further to my review above, four more new multi-million projects have got underway within walking distance south, east and west of Woodville North. (1) The local shopping centre, Centro Arndale, is undergoing massive rennovations and additions including two new entrances, a new lift, 2 new travelators, a bigger BigW, a refurbished Woolworths and many new shops. (2) On Woodville Road, opposite the very modern council building, a new, 2-story, all glass complex is nearly being built and we're all wondering what that's going to be. (3) On the corner of Torrens and Addison Roads another new, 2-story building is being built there as well; again, what will it be? (4) Finally, there's another Coles and other shops/cafes opening up in the new St. Claire development. Everything in and around Woodville North is changing for the better so rapidly!
