"Highett, a changing suburb."
Highett has undergone a lot of change in the last ten years. It is one of the more affordable bayside suburbs, but like everywhere else, house prices have increased over this period of time. Many properties have been bought and subdivided, especially corner properties. Larger houses (double storey) are now appearing in what was previously a suburb of mostly single storey houses. There are currently several large developments being built - apartments and a supermarket. Traffic through the shopping strip is often congested, and it can be difficult to find car parking.
Apart from that, Highett is a good suburb to live in. If you rely on public transport the train is nearby and the buses are good. Southland is not too far away. The people are nice and there is a village feel to the suburb, brought about by the friendliness of the shop keepers.
