Inglewood

"We're going to miss you Inglewood (Stuart St)"

When we moved to Perth 4 years ago, we really didn't know where to live. Although we had norrowed down some general areas, it was partly by chance that we ended up in Inglewood - and what a fantastically 'lucky' chance that was.

The suburb is a quite old area, with a lot of 1920/30's bungalow houses, many of which have been renovated/extended, but generally all kept to a good standard. Residents vary, but there is definitely a noticeable number of younger families, which are well catered for by the safe neighbourhood, relatively affordable housing (especially compared to Mt Lawley), and numerous suburban parks/playgrounds (our house on Stuart St has 2 parks within 300m of the house). The Inglewood Primary School is also meant to be one of the best in the area.

Running through the middle of Inglewood is the fantastic 'Beaufort St Strip'. While not quite as developed as the nearby Mount Lawely section (of the same Rd), it offers an increasing range of eating and shopping options, and a great local 'pub' - The Inglewood Hotel, not to mention fantastic public transport into the city (~6km away). Additionally, a Coles shopping centre, and an IGA offer convenient grocery shopping and good parking. The major Morley shopping centre is only 5mins away for Myers etc.

The only real cons for us are possibly the fact that there is still some community housing and the Midland trainline on the eastern side of Inglewood in neighbouring Maylands. As a result, there are occassionally small amounts of grafitti in that part of Inglewood (along York St etc) That said, this really is limited to the Maylands side, and there are really no other issues assocaited with that area.

All in all, a great, affordable suburb, close to the city and fantastic for young families. We have thoroughly enjoyed the 4 years we've spent in Inglewood and will be sad to be leaving behind such a lovely suburb.

Great for

  • Lots of suburban parks
  • An ever increasing number of eating options
  • Close to city
  • Close to amenities
  • Mixture of character and modern houses
  • Safe and quiet suburb

Not great for

  • The odd grafitti on the eastern side (Maylands border)

Who lives here?
