Tan Court

"Tan Court is mostly great except for a family of Bogans!"

There is a good atmosphere amongst most of the residents of Tan Court... Over the years they have become friends and most years hold a Xmas time Court party which is good fun. However at time of writing there is ONE house which is full of BOGANS! These people bring down the street and are into the Footy Club, Cars (and themselves). Given time, it is hoped that they will move on as they are greatly disliked and do not fit into the quiet court life.

Keilor

"Boring Suburb with not much for kids to do."

Am in my 40's now, but I grew up in Keilor. Parents been there close to 30 years. They probably would have moved, however the re-sale pricing in Keilor has not risen much (bar the last year or so), hence they did not see value as near retirees who would have to fork out more $ to live in pricier suburbs, so they have stayed. My parents moved our family there with the hope of upgrading to a 'better' suburb. I think it was a better suburb then, than it is now. As a teenager Keilor was boring... Nothing much to do. My generation would mill/walk around Keilor or catch a bus/train at Essendon into the city to hangout. In my 20's it was mostly based around the footy club/ Thursday nights at the pub (with uni/work in between). One of my siblings' generation, from what I am led to believe, cut out the walking and travel and just smoked dope & spent time boozing at the pub (who served underrage drinkers). Don't know if it was just a generational thing or the suburb... However I would not particularly recommend Keilor for people with kids. I just feel that there are better suburbs out there with better infrastructure for young children/teenagers. Calder Rise primary used to be a fantastic primary school... It closed in 2009, which was a shame. Keilor village is attractive and leafy. If I had to move back there, would probably chose that area over other pockets. Also Horseshoe Bend Rd/Riverside Ave area is ok too.

St Johns Rd

"Noisy as Melbourne Airport"

I agisted my horse there for awhile in 2000. It does have peaceful moments... However just when you are starting to relax, your peace will and can be interrupted by the noise of planes landing and taking off from nearby Melbourne Airport... When I was there there, the local winery would daily fire gunshots to scare off starlings/birds when their vines had ripe grapes... I had to move my horse as it especially freaked him out and he tried to jump out of his stable (This happened to a friend's horse on same property and it injured itself). I could not imagine living there with the planes much less shooting hillbillies nearby.

Lazybones

^ What a load of rubbish. I've been in Oaklands Junction for 7 years and barely notice any aircraft noise, certainly no more than the surrounding suburbs like Greenvale or Sunbury. If there is any noise it's that of farm animals list roosters and cows, what you will not miss is bogans racing commodores outside your door. This is an area of outstanding beauty and little light pollution. The sky at night here is breath taking, the view of the Macedon ranges is breath taking, and as a bonus there's a very low crime rate meaning cheaper home & car insurance, and I feel like my kids can run around outside without the fear of strangers.

Hmmm I'm entitled to my opinion. In this instance I think 'Lazybones' is way off the mark. Currently visit Greenvale area very often. Have visited and spent ALOT of time in Oaklands Junction area for MANY years and have noticed hat its is MUCH NOISIER than Greenvale! I think b/c you have a vested interest in the area, your judgement (and hearing) is slightly marred! Come on - Be honest! The airport DOES use your area as a FLIGHT PATH, so of course you can hear them flying direct overhead in St Johns road and Oakland Junction!! If it wasn't so noisy we would have bought a property there by now! (Though we really like the location and land - we looked at a few properties, but didn't like the noise). Let's face it; Rural Views don't cut it for most people when there is not peace and quiet you would expect from living semi-rural.

Verekers Lane

"A Haven from the Rat Race and Inner City Life"

I have been a huge fan of and have visited Kyneton and surrounding rural areas on a number of occassions. As such, I have always in particular liked Verekers Lane. In my opionion I think the area is a lovely and scenic part of Kyneton and is one of my favourites. I was really happy to hear that my friend had bought back into the area again. You are really close to the hub of town, with all of its growing number of classy eating establishments. With some great little shops for some retail therapy. Not too far from either Sunbury, Melbourne or Bendigo either. The area is close to Kyneton Riding Club and pony club facilities (great if you have kids). There are lovely gum tree lined roads. My only complaints: I wish their local council would hurry along and seal more of the roads in that area as there have been a number of small acreage subdivisions, yet many roads still remain unsealed. Also not on town water.

Vida Street

"Aberfeldie - An OVERRATED and Noisy little Haven"

Everyone always gushes on about what a fantastic place their street is to live... Well I don't owe my street anything... It has annoyingly woken me on more than one occassion before I have been ready to awaken! Vida Street seems to be especially busy as many people use it as a thoroughfare to get to The Boulevard and to a garden centre called Poyntons. From 6.15am buses run along much of Vida & surrounding streets as do many persons Walking and talking, coming and going to walk the tracks around the river areas...(Geez I wish they would shut up! Can't people exercise in SILENCE?) We have also been kept awake by noisy neighbourhood & neighbours... Bloody barking dogs too! (I have lived in a boarding kennel that was quieter!). I speculate that it could be that there are quiet a few rentals in the area - perhaps? OR possibly just a bunch of inconsiderate wankers who like to party - who knows! Also re noise: Can hear rock concerts from Showgrounds and Flemington, which can be REALLY loud and annoying when you are trying to put young children to sleep or even fall asleep yourself. Anglers Tavern on river is also loud, playing doof doof musiK on many occassions/lateish. Overall I have slept in more peaceful places than Vida Street. Good luck if you have spent a fortune to reside here! Personally I would NOT recommend living here!
