Lived there many years ago, moved to Sydney and just bought back. Although it's changed of course with many people it's a nice mix of social maturity giving some decent food outlets and decent clothing shops. While it might be more expensive than Moss Vale or suburbs in Sydney, it's not over top and modest compared to Cape Cod or the Hamptons.

Never had a break in, minimal crime and yes although there are some stuck up people so what. Let's be honest, an area with wealth is much more pleasant than an area without it (I've been there) so all the knockers are free to leave when they want and move to where they want, the beauty of Australia as a free country. I think much of wealth in Bowral is old money rather than new so the GFC effect is over rated on this town.

Look around and stay, its a relaxed town.
