The acreage belt on the west side of town is a hidden oasis. This area is one of the greenest around Brisbane. Even when there are lengthy periods without rain this area remains verdant green.

The suburb has some secluded pockets of old growth rainforest (like out property), which are home to a diverse range of wildlife; Lace Monitor Goanna’s, Water dragons, a wide range of frogs, carpet pythons (quite harmless), even the occasional Koala platypus or turtle - many of the birds spotted in the area are peculiar only to this zone. The more open tracts of land closer to Brookfield supposedly get the occasional Deer, though I have only spotted one in the past 7 years.

There is a solid community feel in the area, with moots at the local hall for those interested. Broadband at 1.5m is available - soon to be upgraded to ADLS2, and Digital TV reception is crystal clear, the TV transmission towers are not very far away in a direct line. Mobile phone can be a little patchy, however that will improve as the telcos continue rollout. Power to the area has improved immensely over the past 5 years, there is currently an upgrade to power deliver along upper Brookfield road to improve the service.

For those lucky enough to live here it is approximately a 12 minute drive to the Kenmore roundabout, the location of various cafes and restaurants and a supermarket complex. This does not involve driving through any traffic lights. Where else in Brisbane can you do that? It is also unheard of in Sydney and Melbourne.

Traffic is very light, for those on rigid 9-5 CBD working hours the traffic will get heavy from around 7.30 on Moggill Rd and the freeway, we would always aim at hitting the freeway by 7 and having a coffee before work. There are infrastructure changes on the way, including the sealing of the road from Brookfield to The Gap which is currently in progress.

Travel times are 10 to 15 minutes to the Kenmore roundabout, then anything from 15 minutes to 45 minutes to the CBD - depending on the time of day. The majority of our trips into the city or Fortitude valley take around 40 minutes.
