East Ryde

"A great place to live, central to everything"

There are two sections to this suburb, the "Dress Circle Estate" and some other streets that just fall outside this area. The "Dress Circle Estate" was built by LJ Hooker back in the early 60's. It was given this name because the estate was built in the shape of a theatre and it faces Sydney city which is the stage, (go to Google maps and you can see what I mean). Because of this all the streets are named after famous Australian performers like Peggy Sager who was a ballerina and Dame Nellie Melba who was a opera singer.
Some of the streets in East Ryde (not all) have a covenant on them which doesn’t allow multiple dwellings, which means a developer can't come along a build a block of flats next-door. It has a very small group of shops for all the essentials, milk bar, pharmacy, bottle shop and playground for the children. There is one primary public school. The bus service can take you straight to the city or Macquarie Centre where you can catch a train. Neighbouring North Ryde has more schools, (both private and government), a major shopping centre, a university and a newly built private hospital.
The only downside to East Ryde is the occasional aircraft noise.
