Young Street

"Nice tree lined street accessible to schools and child care"

Young street is an early Petrie street containing a few original farm houses (little known). The mix of housing is quite varied and includes traditional queenslanders/post war homes/brick veneer/high density units. Highlights of the street are the restored queenslanders, the sandstone homestead and the gorgeous jacaranda trees that line the border of Petrie state school. Young street also provides mixed use from residential homes to churches, the Petrie fire station, funeral home and a car dealership. Unfortunatelty the things that make this street good, access to schools, child care and access to public transport also provide its negative - during the school rush, the street is extremely busy and parking is difficult. Often you will find parents parked across residents driveways causing inconvenience. The street does also attract the occasional hoon driver and there have been a couple of very serious high speed accidents. Aside from this, it really is a nice street, it is quiet when off peak and the murmur of children playing at school during their lunch break is nice. This street is perfect for anyone without a car! It's a short walk to woollies and the train and bus stops. housing is still affordable and good value can be found.

Carmody Court

"Quiet street following the banks of the north pine river"

A quiet street following the banks of the north pine river. Some homes have magnificent water views, all have easy/direct access to the river trails through to either mungarra reserve or sweeneys. Developed within the Petrie on Pine estate, Carmody court offers a range of living options from modest 3-4 bedroom homes to very large homes on very large blocks. Construction is typically brick veneer with a some very nice reproduction queenslanders. Carmody Ct was extended in 2004 with the Riverbrook development providing an additional 7 blocks of land (2 still vacant). This section really does provide a mix of styles so there will be something for everyone. Typically the homes in this section are very big, however the recent construction of these homes and vacant blocks does seem to leave it a little behind the earlier section of the street in terms of having finished/established gardens. No doubt this will change in time and pair nicely with the rest of the street. Recently 3 additional blocks were provided services from Carmody court. These blocks are at the very end of the street and currently accessed by an unsealed service lane. There is one relocated queenslander down the end, this section also feels somewhat disjointed from the rest of the street, but again this should change over time. This was not a formal development rather servicing of blocks that had been subdivided many years ago. There are two vacant blocks in this section also (but one does have a large shed on it). Well worth a visit and well worth hunting down a home in this street if you are looking for a move...there really is something for everyone.

"Well rounded - central to everything, gorgeous rivers/parks"

I have lived in Petrie for 11 years and intend to for may years to come. Surrounded by the north pine dam, lake kurwongbah and the north pine river, there are so many recreational options. Most streets off the main roads are quiet and there is a broad range of housing options from quaint cottages to large modern homes. Development appears to be well managed and has not stripped away the beauty of this suburb. Petrie village offers your convience shopping, post office, news agent, fast food etc and supermarket woolworths. There is also an IGA and other specialty stores in Freches Forest. There are a number of schooling options both in and surrounding Petrie. There are also good linking transport connections to the likes of Grace Lutheran, Genesis, North Pine Christian and st Paul's. Petrie is well connected to major shopping precincts like North Lakes and Strathpine. In fact few suburbs are so well connected. Petrie station is a 24hr maned train station and provides express trips to the city in 35 mins. Traffic congestion has increased since the January floods, but this is a short term problem being addressed by council. Future proposed developments to the railways and the Petrie bypass will when complete take additional traffic away from Petrie in peak times and further enhance this suburb as a great place to live. If you are looking at moving here, come out one weekend and walk around some of the streets, you will quickly see why it is that Petrie residents so love this area.

Great for

  • Location perfect
  • Fishing/kayaking running tracks
  • Central to schools, shops, transport

Not great for

  • Post flood traffic congestion

Hi, thanks for your review. What do you think about Illoura street in Petrie? We are looking to move to Petrie and found a house on Illoura st however unsure if it is the best choice for us. Thank you

Hi there, we are moving into the area. I was just wondering if you had a rough idea of when upgrades will be made to the anzac avenue congestion and what those upgrades will be? I travel to Scarborough for work and my kids to Grace College. Not a huge fan of the idea of sitting in congested traffic. I know there are alternative routes too but we will be going via primary school first. Thank you

Hi Angela, by chance our children attend grace college. However they catch the bus which removes the Anzac avenue issue for us as parents. Getting your timing right is key, you will quickly work out the best window to start your journey. You will likely find your approach to and through north lakes is your slowest patch. The Petrie roundabout is undergoing a significant upgrade which will help in parts but until the east Petrie bypass is fully committed Anzac avenue congestion will be present. I suspect the university will help push this agenda.

Thank you so much for the reply, much appreciated. Our kids will be catching the bus on certain days too. Are there many Grace families in the area?
Thanks
