Highland Street

"A bit of History"

We are hoping to move soon to one of the oldest houses in Esk. We are trying to trace the history of the house and believe that it was quarters for jockeys in the early 1900's. We have also heard that it was part of the railway system. The more we renovate the more we learn. At any rate, it is a great location. Next to the doctor, across from the hospital and just down from the cemetery! We can walk anywhere in town - groceries, banking, antique shops, chemist, cafes, pubs etc, are all nearby. Another great aspect of the town is the soon to open Pipeline Park. That will be very busy with walkers and others that are trying to keep fit as well as outdoor concerts, markets, festivals...... All in all, I can't think of another area to retire or raise a family that could be better. It's a safe, friendly town. People who retire to a sea change have the ocean, but they also have traffic, crime and lack country hospitality. As one person who recently bought land here said, "it's Brisbane's best-kept secret."

Someone recently write that the old houses were being removed from the town. I'm not sure where this person is talking about. I have lived here for 6 years and only know of one that was moved from Elizabeth Street and another one from a business on Main Street that should have been condemned, it is so riddled with white ants. Of course not everyone can be happy with change, but that's part of life.
