Chermside

"Has everything and everything is close by"

Chermside is a great easy-living suburb - it has everything and within walking reach. It is a suburb wilth all kind of housing options - majority of it detached residential but there are lots of units and now quite a few multi storey apartment blocks. Demograhpic is quite mixed too, originally there were a lot of retirees, but now quite a few professionals, young singles and families are moving in. I have lived in the area for thirty years (24 in Wavell heights and 6 in chermside); there was a time when houses in Chermside were 30% cheaper than the ones across the road in Wavell Heights, but now prices are at par. People may lament about it becoming hip and trendy, but we can't hold back time. In my opinion, due to its relative proximity to city and availability of all kind of amenities, it is good place to buy and establish a home.

Very true Neil, you can't stay the ever present hand of "progress". Wavell has maintained its old charm, with outstanding walking paths and teenagers keen to spray paint their names on them. Chermside however has changed dramatically in the 11 odd years Ive lived here. It isnt safe to venture out at night for fear of being accosted by drunken louts. It used to be safe for the kids to play in the playground, not so much now as the thugs from places like Zillmere have decided to call Chermside home. The demographic is mixed and becoming more skewed in favour of drug affected thugs whom congregate in the shopping centre, selling drugs to school kids. I remember back in the 80's Paramatta in Sydneys west had similar "progress", being touted as a second CBD (sound familiar?). Look at Paramatta now. It is what Chermside will be in 10-20 years time. A complete drug haven, fit only for those good for nothing thugs responsible for bringing the suburb I used to love into disrepair. The heavy hand of progress comes at a price. Long after the greedy developers leave Chermside it will be up to the people to pay that price. Sorry to be so negative Neil, but its the people that make a place more than its facilities. If becoming hip and trendy is a euphemism for social deterioration, then I agree with you whole heatedly. If, on the other hand, it is a euphemism for humanity's capacity to evolve and demonstrate kindness and consideration for their fellow man/woman, your way off the mark there.

I've lived in Parramatta and seen it develop into a beauty . The whining people have left and it now has people that enjoy the convenience and facilities . The doomsayers sold early and now i bet they wish they never left . Rundown house can not be bought for less than 1.2m with all the worlds convenience at your door step.
If you want to be on the wrong side of history then follow the OP advice otherwise buy in chermy and enjoy the ride , you won't be disappointed.
I also invest in chermy and chermy west and I can feel Parramatta replicating itself there in another 5-10 years.

I've lived in and worked in parramatta for the past 13 years and its definitely not a drug haven fit only for those good for nothing thugs!!!! There may be some people that do drugs that live here (like most suburbs anywhere in Australia). I certainly haven't bumped into one, or had any negative experience with a good for nothing thug here. Its become a trendy city out of the city with lots of great restaurant options.
