Roseville

"Very neighbourly - near the action but not in the action."

Roseville is a very neighbourly and friendly suburb that operates at a slightly slower pace than surrounding areas. It's still very quick to get to the city centre though.

Roseville has a couple of strips of shops, one on the west of the highway and one to the east. The one on the east has pretty good eating and a great art deco cinema. The one on the west is on the flat side of the suburb, and has a few more take away places, a grocer, bottle shop and a couple of nice cafes. The shops are good but not as good as Lindfield and much less comprehensive than Chatswood (both a 5 min drive away). We tend to eat in Roseville but shop in Chatswood or Lindfield. It's not the worst thing in the world I suppose that Roseville does not attract a lot of shopper traffic!

The schools in Roseville are good from Roseville kindy on Shirley Road (west side) to Lindfield High or Roseville College.

There are some good parks too - I particularly like getting a coffee in the park on Clanville Road whilst our kids are playing in the playground there.

All in all it works very well for us. We like the peace but we also like the train links into town and appreciate being just 20 mins from the city and the beach.

Great for

  • Nice neighbours
  • Peaceful pace suits families
  • Well located for the centre

Not great for

  • No bars (other than the exceedingly brightly lit RSL)

I don't agree entirely with these comments. I have lived in Roseville for 5 years now and I'm yet to find anyone genuinely greet me or my family. I find the food and cafe seen lacking and limiting after living in the inner west and generally people tend to keep to themselves especially if you don't look the part. This comment is absolutely right about a peaceful existence, one could say it has the same serenity as a retirement village or cemetery. On the plus side there is a train station, Chatswood commercial centre is close by and getting into Sydney CBD can be done in 20 minutes on a good run i.e little traffic around.
