"Lots to do!"

Charters Towers is a small town which offers just about everything you need. It boasts a thriving cultural community with amateur theatre, choral groups, arts and craft, brass band, to name a few. If you're more into sport, you can find a wide variety of teams including soccer, rugby, touch football, basketball, volleyball, indoor soccer, netball... Plus, there is also the fascinating gold rush and mining history of the town to investigate.

Granted, if you're into having a wild nightlife, the most exciting thing in the normal course of the year is a few drinks at the pub - perhaps with an open mic. But there are also amateur races to get all spiffy for, a charity ball, the Goldfield Ashes (biggest amateur cricket competition in the Southern Hemisphere, held Australia Day weekend every year), country music festival and a number of rodeos as well.

So for those who say there is nothing to do and that this is a boring town, it all depends on what you're looking for. I come from Brisbane - I love living here and don't find it boring at all!

Great for

  • Primary Education (3 State Schools, 3 Private Schools, 1 School of Distance Education)
  • Small-town feel - no traffic lights or roundabouts!
  • Quiet, safe and friendly atmosphere.

Not great for

  • Nightlife not spectacular most of the time.
  • Lack of shop variety (Target Country, but no Kmart, for example)
  • Nearest big town (Townsville) is 140kms away.

Who lives here?

  • Professionals
  • Singles
  • Families with kids
  • Retirees
  • Tourists
  • Hipsters
  • Country Lovers
