Somers Drive

"Relatively quiet street, in very affordable area"

My family and I have lived on this street for about 8 years, and chose our house due to:

- affordability

- lack of 'through' traffic

- leafy surrounds (views of Chapmans Hill on one side, and trees near local oval on other side)

- wildlife (rainbow lorrikeets and galahs - nothing squawky!)

- convenient location (short walk to school and shops, and about a 20 min walk to Wyong train station)

- proximity to F3 (close enough to easily commute to Sydney, but far enough away that traffic can't be heard)

- lifestyle options (10 min to either Tuggerah Westfield, or the rural area of Jilliby and surrounds)

The appearance of houses in the street varies - most are well maintained, but there are definitely some that receive less care (may be housing commission?)

We don't know most of our neighbours well, but we have a basic relationship (know their names, enough about them to say 'hi', give/receive Christmas cards). Some neighbours have a great relationship (mow each other's lawns, collect mail when someone is on holidays - someone even called Emergency Services out of concern when an elderly, unwell resident had not been seen for a few days).

When we first moved in, one neighbour about 4 doors down left a 'welcome' card in our letterbox, along with their name and phone number in case we needed any help settling in, which was lovely.

Long term residents seem to be retirees, who take pride in their houses and neighbourhood.

There are very occasionally loud arguments heard from the rougher looking houses - maybe once every 6 weeks.

Unlike previous reviewer, we haven't had any problems with post, although we do hear the trail bikes maybe once every month, on Saturday or Sunday mornings - they can be quite loud.

Some residents do have dogs, but all are fenced in their backyards, and currently there are no 'barkers'.

There are kids in the street, who, due to the light traffic, sometimes do play games on the road. Personally, I don't think its an ideal area for young kids, due to the rougher element in this street, and some surrounding streets, but I certainly haven't seen or heard of any problems.

Property/house value has been on a steady increase in the last few years; I think this may be due to new houses being built in the area.

In summary, we enjoy living in Somers Dr, but recommend that if you are considering buying/renting here, you take a look at the houses surrounding yours for an indicator of what your experience will be like.
