One Mile

"Leichhardt, close to city life, but hidden away."

Leichhardt is a changing place, an old mix of ex government rental homes, ex raaf homes and private ones all mixed together with new developments around the edges. The older homes are mainly timber or fibro on concrete stumps and solidly built. Compared to the many new homes ( which are from $350k upwards ) the older stock is bargain basement buying. The homes lend themselves to renovations since the basics of just about all of them is very good. Many have undergone extensive renovations inside, but you can`t tell always from the outside.
The area has a fairly good mix of families and the retired and the occasional youngsters in a home. Its not a busy area at all, except the main through roads, and at night it is normally very quiet in most locations with nobody to be seen. The area is park rich, I`ve read it has more suburban parks than any other suburb in Qld. Many of the streets are quite leafy so it has a good feel. It is very convenient for shopping with West Ipswich shops and the main central area and Riverlinks shopping centre really only 4 - 10 mins away. It also has a very good regular, every 30 mins, bus service which runs around most of the area which is great for the kids and the oldies. On the whole the locals are friendly and helpful, but tend to keep to themselves and not intrude. I am myself a rep, and travel all over SE Qld, but its nice to come home to Leichhardt because its quite relaxed compared to many other areas.
