Reviews of Wakehurst Parkway, Elanora Heights
"A Verdant Through Route...."
Wakehurst Parkway is a very long winding road stretching all the way from the beginning at Seaforth, up through the scrubby bushland of the Manly Warringah War Memorial Park, where it crosses Warringah Rd at Frenchs Forest before descending.
At this point it runs down to the Oxford Falls area, which was once overgrown and more like a day trip from Sydney. Now the heights above the falls boast many palatial new homes, as the urban sprawl expands ever outwards.
Passing Oxford Falls, the grammar school, and the Christian City Church or ‘C3’ (why, in such an area, I don’t know), Wakehurst Parkway becomes the leafier avenue of past days.
Eighteen years ago you could traverse this section of the Parkway and not pass another single vehicle. Now, it is a well trafficked through route and experiences peak hour traffic jams, especially in the morning. It is still, however, very beautiful, overhung with trees as it winds through the outskirts of Garigal National Park.
Skirting Narrabeen Lakes on the right, the houses of Elanora Heights and North Narrabeen begin to appear on the slopes to the left. Many of these would have not only beautiful lakes views, but ocean views or glimpses as well. Some of the houses are fairly close to the road, and despite being on large blocks, I personally would not want to live so close to such a busy road, even if it is only two lanes for the most part.
Bilarong Reserve on the lake foreshore here, has a wonderful playground, and there are (allegedly) plans for a possible café.
