Reviews of Warialda, NSW

"Mixed bag"

Like any location there are positives and negatives to Warialda. For a small town it is pretty well serviced with gps (bulk billing), a multi-purpose medical centre, retirement home, nice 9 hole golf course, a bowling club, a couple of pubs, solicitor, accountant, IGA, post office, take aways, mechanics, petrol station, smaller specialty shops, credit union (limited hours though), schools, churches, police station, fire brigade, and swimming pool. Excellent for a town of just over 1000. The real estate is very affordable and Warialda is quite central to other larger towns, however it’s at least a 90 minute round trip to get to those towns and therefore it’s relatively isolated. There are quite a few friendly locals but other locals aren’t the welcoming kind (unless you are another well-established local) to the point of discriminating against those who weren’t born and raised in the area. Conservative farming area. It can be very difficult to get tradies too. Very dry climate, drought-stricken. Limited employment opportunities unless willing to travel or have specialist skills the town needs. Just about non existent public transport.

And the rates are highway robbery.

Can I take that to mean that, no matter that youre a good, decent person, your income dictates how youre treated? That they cosy up to those coming in with money but not those whose income dictates where they can live?

I never mentioned money

"Clean Air and Country, Safe and very Affordable"

If you are looking to settle down in a safe home with clean air and all services then you can't go past Warialda. The town facilities are excellent, catering for all age groups and with all levels of quality schooling available, you and your children would reap the benefits immediately.
Our town boasts numerous sporting bodies, community groups and specialised events every year with major support from larger towns so keeping active and healthy is very easy.
The older historic buildings are enjoyed by all and a strong community pride exists here so if you have an interest in living in a community with this, then you will not be disappointed.
Looking for night life? - With both Moree and Inverell just down the highway, you can satisfy those cravings easily AND live in peace and safety, right here in Warialda.
Many of the locals travel 5-6 hours annually and in school holiday periods, over to the Coast, being able to access Queensland and northern New South Wales holiday spots using safe and reliable roads, but if you want to just swim, then this Shire has many spots to access the wonderful Gwydir River and of course, local swimming pools.
The affordability of housing and shire rates makes Warialda a well- kept secret at the moment, but don't shilly-shally, coastal retiress are sick of the influx of city dwellers into their first choice ex-city moves and are actively moving across the Great Divide into the Gwydir Shire, and notably, into Warialda.
Health reasons often influence choices people make when considering a move, here in Warialda our 2009 purpose built hospital, with ancillary facilities is a factor to keep in mind.
Our General Practioners run a superb medical clinic and can look after your health needs with no fuss, a very different picture in other centres today!
Our water supply has never been rationed, we Warialdaites would not know what to do if this ever happened, we are so lucky to have clean water, naturally filtered through local sandstone available every day, making growing some vegetables and gardens a glorious past time.
Shopping is catered for on a daily basis, a long standing local newspaper, all the shops you will need to supply yourself and all within walking distance - or cycling!
Give yourself a new grasp on life, come to welcoming Warialda and spent the rest of your life!

I think you live somewhere else. The locals won't talk to you and there is NOTHING to do. The water tastes disgusting and I have to filter mine as it is bore water. The soil is sand and grows every weed imaginable. I've seen people move here and they don't stay long when they realise how boring it is. There are sporting facilities, but no one uses them. Can't wait to get out.

"Warialda - a secret gem"

You could be forgiven for thinking that Warialda is just another quiet country town, destined to struggle with a declining population. Boasting the oldest post office in Australia and a number of fine heritage buildings, Warialda is set for a boom, for both younger "tree changers" and retirees.

Most younger families are turned off rural areas by a lack of facilities, but Warialda is an exception. Primary, Secondary and pre-school facilities are all available in the town. For older families and retirees, the town also has a new state-of-the-art hospital, doctors surgery, ambulance, and aged-care accommodation.

The town's location on the western slopes of the Great Dividing Range ensures a temperate climate (averaging a maximum of 26 degrees in summer) and a welcome relief from NSW and Queensland's scorching summers.

Housing affordability easily outstrips Queensland and most of NSW; a 3-bedroom home sells for as low as $90,000, with homes on acreage available for around $300,000.

Whilst nightlife and shopping aren't high priorities, the nearby town of Inverell provides both.

The town is well positioned to enable access to Sydney, Brisbane and the Gold/Tweed coasts.

Recommended for families, couples and retirees who are seeking affordable living in a community atmosphere.
