"A down to Earth, realistic and honest review of a suburb with a very good and strong reputation !"

Woodridge is one of the better suburbs you'll find in the South Brisbane area. I have purchased a house there 5 years ago at a very affordable price and to be honest i brought more for my dollar.
When i was first looking through Woodridge inspecting different homes to purchase i was amazed how well maintained and renovated the houses are in woodridge. Majority of the houses had new kitchens, bathrooms, large rooms timber or tiled floors.
Some of the older homes in woodridge are homes with character and solid built and you can easily find homes with verandas and patios, big garages and fully fenced.

The house i purchased for under $300 000 had a carport, lock up garage, fully fenced and private, in-ground s/water pool, spa, patio, very well maintained house inside, freshly painted, new bathroom, new hot plates and oven, three air-conditioners, nice hedging and gardens, large rooms all been re-wired through out.

My first night living in my house at woodridge i was thinking about some old tales about the suburb and while sitting outside i noticed it was more peaceful and quiet then in other suburbs i had lived in during my childhood. I often ride my bike through woodridge day or night for fitness and i haven't had a problem with any residence living there in fact they are more willing to say g'day and smile.
I have walked to the 24 hour shops in woodridge a few times and its always quiet and peaceful and while walking i have noticed the homes and majority are well maintained.

I have on many occasions used the very convenient public transport available as i am walking distance from not 1 but 2 railway stations with trains taking you to the Brisbane CBD or to the Gold Coast and many buses that can take you absolutely anywhere and bus-stops are everywhere in woodridge and there is now a new large bus bay just been built.

Woodridge has many convenient shops and every kind of shops and businesses you could think of and Hyperdome shopping mall is 15 min drive away.

There is a highly regarded school in Woodridge with a reputation of being one of the best in the state and a large library and art center, and a rego department just in the next street.
There is alot of new developments happening in and around woodridge the suburb has been very much cleaned up by council.

If you are looking to purchase a nice big home to raise a family in with a large yard, many mod-cons and very little work needed to the house at a very affordable price then woodridge is the place to live.

If you are an investor and you purchase homes to renovate and sell to make a good profit then woodridge is the place to invest. Homes at $250 000 in woodridge that get tidying up even more sell for $370 000.

take a look in real estate sites for homes in woodridge you will see for yourself they are large good homes, clean and tidy, and affordable and once done up they can sell for alot more.

Woodridge is a safe and better suburb and tales of the past about woodridge being abit rough is HISTORY ALREADY! :-)

"Don’t believe the stories .....this is a beautiful suburb"

We purchased our home Dec 2020 from a couple whom lived in this area for 27 years and never had any issue - they only moved due to going into a retirement home. If you are a savvy buyer and looking for homes that are sturdy, filled with character, good size blocks of land, 25mins to the CBD & 45mins to the Gold Coast then this is the place to buy. We absolutely love the area, we are stones through from the Sunday vegetable markets (the food is divine), IKEA, KMART, supermarkets ....everything.

Yes you have to be security conscious but it’s like that everywhere!!! ....I had a delivery guy say to me oh you need to lock your doors around here??? I replied “bro you need to lock your doors no matter where you live.”

We did our homework and have lived in Logan for 9 years ....and I am so glad we never listened to the stories - trust me the real estate here is going to boom, I am just glad I have got in when I have. ....you only have to look at Slacks Creek the housing market there is hot!

If you are thinking of buying here ...drive down the street, research, walk down it at different times of the day ...do your homework....

"Woodridge? Keep your eyes open..."

From looking at the current top line review (and others), I would say "Don't believe anything on this page".

If you are considering this suburb for any reason - do some research - but not from this website!

As an owner/tenant it may be a cheap initial investment, but consider what you want to get out of that investment.
It may not be worth it in the long run.
If you are looking at a property, talk to the neighbours and someone a couple of streets away.
If you feel uncomfortable doing that, then don't buy!
There are several mentions of a 24 hr supermarket - they are talking about a 7-11!
There is NO 24 hour shopping centre...
there is a significant number of welfare, pension, unemployed.
This is not neccessarily bad but the quoted employment profile managed to ignore them completely.

Woodridge does have good access to rail, schools, and shopping centres.
It has access to major transportation corridors, but at anywhere near peak hour there are major delays.
"15 minutes to Brisbane" is doable late at night - IF the numerous traffic lights are feeling kind, but more realistically "1hour to Brisbane" would be more accurate.
It is a mixed culture suburb.
this could be a good or bad thing depending on your personal attitude.
Most of the people I have met have been nice, but the ratbags can be really unpleasant.
It does have a significant drug problem.
It does have a high crime rate.
It is the administrative center for a city (Logan). The elected officers and Mayor got sacked in 2019 for corruption and bullying - there are a couple of good councillors who got caught up in this...

When cheap hot dogs at Ikea are considered a selling point by multiple reviewers - then I get suspicious...
It is NOT good for beachgoers - there is no beach within a 30 minute drive and closer to an hours drive.
It is NOT a country town - it is highly commercialised and highly developed (not high rise ).
It does not have a good nightlife, unless you consider a pub to be "nightlife"
I would not recommend it as ideal for raising young children for numerous reasons. High traffic density and major roads, the "gang" problem I mention elsewhere among others.
There are parks and sporting facilities - I can't comment on the quality or nature of them. There is limited, if any, bush walking areas.
Many of the houses in Woodridge were built during the 70s by cheap, dodgy developers or as govenment housing (Housing Commision). If you are looking at these properties get a thorough inspection performed. (generally anything chamferboard, hardiplank or similar would need careful checking anyway.
The block sizes were considered small at the time, but could be considered reasonable in the current climate...

I wouldn't live there if there was any other option.
I don't mind walking around the main streets during the day but not the back streets anytime.
There is significant "Gang" related crime - much of this is people who are legally considered children, and who tend to be repeat offenders.
(they get caught, get a slap on the wrist and are out and doing whatever thy want later the same week)

"Local Real Estate Advice"

I am a Real Estate Agent and I have chosen to work in Woodridge why I hear you ask?
Because I see great potential here, let me explain; its surrounded by area that a well and truly more expensive and to get from one to the other you must go through Woodridge. It has schools and train stations and is just of the highway to be able to go to Brisbane CBD or to the Gold Coast.
It does have a reputation but that is slowly going away as all the housing commission is slowly getting sold off. What I love is the entry price!
For $300,000 you can buy a nice home on a good sized block. I believe the reason why so many homes are rentals here is because the investors that have the foresight can see that the area will rise in price significantly.

"Woodridge is changing"

We bought a house in Woodridge a year ago, in that time we have completed a full renovation including the addition of a second floor, we were also lucky to get a larger block totallling 750m2.
The area around us is also developing, the property behind us has just been knocked down for a new build, the house next to was already renovated before we moved in and two houses on our street have just started renovations and are being lifted for second floors. In the year we’ve been here, we’ve had no Break ins or any problems. The house we bought was previously used for government housing so I’m pretty sure the logan city council has started selling off the government housing in Woodridge to work in improving the area profile.

Last week we got another valuation on our property and after all the renovations, we were happy to find out after spending $340k including the renovations and purchase of the house our house is now worth approximately $470k, happy days

There’s some great money to be made here as it’s only 20 minutes drive from the city

"Very Dangerous"

I was dating a guy from Woodridge at the time and his friend stabbed someone in front of the police station. Didn’t care about getting caught at all. We also know that people get attacked for money and their wallet/purse in broad daylight. The attacks are brutal. There’s crime that happens in every town but this town is extreme. Also did you hear about the taxi driver a couple of years back that ran over a person on purpose because they were pissing them off? That happened in broad daylight and in Woodridge.

"A suburb of many different cultures and backgrounds."

I lived in the heart of it for three years. I then bought another property in nearby Kingston.

Woodridge has two shopping centres next to each other and within a few minutes drive to other large stores. Its very well located. Minutes drive to the freeways to either the Gold Coast or Sunshine Coast.

The area is very affordable living compared to Brisbane. A lot of people catch the trsin to work in Brisbane ( I was just one of them).

The area has a bad name, but, I lived in affluent areas before buying and living in the area, and there is almost as much crazy stuff going on in those neighnourhoods, too, though more clandestine. You are more shocked when you discover the nice old man next door either killed his wife or has a drug lab in his home.

The parks and recreation areas are second to none. Sure, there is rubbish on the street, like most others. I used to walk my dog every morning and we'd pick up bags of it. If no one bothered to pick it up, then it would just remain on the street until a storm swept it away.

"Please God hear me out"

I've been living in Marsden, a suburb over from Woodridge, my whole life but I pretty much go to Woodridge every day because it has shops I need to go to that I don't have here, and it saves gas rather than going to Brownsplanes or the Hyperdome, and I want to say that this is all just a tip of the iceberg. Not only Woodridge but: Kingston, Marsden, Crestmead, Beenleigh, you name it, are all so impoverished and crime driven that I feel depressed to wake up and leave the house every morning. The standard of living is horrible, not everyone (as most reviewers have said) is horrible but, a majority of people are dole bludgers, ice addicts, drug dealers (I have a house up the street from me that used to be a massive crime pin until one of the men was arrested and now his family is quieter plus I know of several others across the district), drug users (I have been fortunate to only meet four people that were high in my life, two of which were just on pot but still pretty scary I was only a kid FYI these were all strangers), thieves (I can't even count how many times my things have been stolen and I honestly couldn't tell you how many times someone i know has had things stolen... Plus I've actually physically seen people steal from shops in front of me and often times no one has noticed until I have said anything and even then people don't really care apart from SOME other customers who help me), and generally horrible people. Take it from me, I've spent my whole life here. I can tell you about any part of this Hell hole and still take you to the same conclusion, STAY AWAY. DO NOT MOVE YOUR FAMILY HERE PLEASE THEY WILL BECOME HOERIBLE! As I got older I watch all of my friends turn into members of this horrible society, I've seen friends become drug addicts and dealers I've seen them try to kill themselves and lose their sense of life's purpose. This might sound f**king dramatic to you but I'm so sick and tired of this place THIS is MY life here and I wouldn't wish it upon anyone. Back to a practical review viewpoint. I want to keep this short and sweet but there's so much I could say, honestly. There isn't much to do here. There are no nightclubs anything fancy like that. Nothing for teens, unless you count the Crestmead Bluelight Disco (which is for pre-teens and my friends do not let their kids go because it is 'too dangerous' and I have heard stories from the children's friends about it, let me tell you). If you're an adult there's a liquor store or pub on every corner and that's it for 'nightlife'. There are pokies in these bars as well. I don't drink so the only time I went into one of these pubs was a brazen attempt at karaoke with some friends (cause sometimes they have karaoke on some nights) but they for some reason weren't doing it that night and we left in disappointment so yeah... Anyways, if you're looking for GOOD clothing stores, your only hope is the Grandplaza and the Hyperdome, which by the way isn't even in Woodridge it's a little drive away. They have shops like Supre and other shops like that are alright I guess, for places like forever 21 you'll have to venture a train ride to the city (Brisbane City) that place is just f**king aye. I don't even want to begin with the train system in this area, I know people who have been robbed on it and the worst thing that happened to me was my friend when I was in my last year of high school was threatened by this gang of guys they were going to 'bash his f***king skull in' and all that, then because it was a school trip a parent stepped in a started a fight with the guy in the gang who had threatened my friend and we all had to evacuate that carriage. This happened right in front of me, because we were sitting together, it was insane. Anyways so back to the shops. The only shops in Woodridge are cheap clothing shops, well, the only shops in Woodridge are cheap shops. That brings me to my billionth problem with the area. Everyone is getting FATTER. I don't mean that in a bad way at all, I myself am not a stick but, people are getting lazier and bigger because there's ONLY takeaway shops, so don't take that in a bad way please I mean no disrespect to people living a healthy life but these people are far from healthy. There are no healthy eating places, unless you count subway which I do not because they have way too many calories and they are NOT healthy like they advertise (obviously). There's nothing really sport wise in Woodeidge either. There is a lot of sport programs offered in schools which I guess is the only good thing about the schooling system here but, where that an take you I honestly don't know I never did anything like that when I was at school (not that you can probably tell but I was more of an Arts kid). So anyways, the only nice thing I can say about this district in particular is all the parks and wildlife reserves that are the ONLY places that cheer me up everyday. The only problem is, the lazy people (once again) ruining it for everyone else. There is litter EVERYWHERE. It's to the point where it's hurting wildlife. I guess the last thing I should say is my experience with the public schooling system. I went to three schools (not counting Kindergardens). First of all, I wasn't allowed to start Prep because I was born 'too late' in the year. Yeah thank God they changed that already but still it was pretty bad in the first place. Secondly, my first school I went to was near the suburb of Crestemeas and Marsden (that I won't name due to privacy reasons and I guess just not to name and shame them even though I really should be) and my mum pulled me out because I was locked in a classroom and left there UNSUPERVISED by a teacher because I wouldn't stop talking about the playground we were going to (because I was excited). Yeah... She left me in a classroom and did not allow me to go, UNSUPERVISED, mind you because I was EXCITED. YES. THIS ACTUALLY F-ING HAPPENED. Long story short the school went into panic and my mum was crying because EVERYONE THOUGHT I HAD BEEN ABDUCTED. Yeah. It was only until I dragged a chair to the window in the door and screamed out for help when people ran past that they were able to unlock the door for me (there was no lock on the inside). I just remember sitting and crying in a corner wondering what I had done wrong for HOURS. After that experience I went to another school where after a string of horrible incidents, almost drowning at a negligent Woodridge swimming pool being one of the times, I went to a high school near Woodride. The reason I've tailed on so much about schooling is because I would like to address the major concerns I have with graduating and the senior years of high school. I'm only a few years out of school so it's still fresh in my mind the procedures but, they would kick you out in grade 11 or 10 it might have been early as I'm not sure, if your grades and attendance were poor. They wouldn't try and help you better your marks, they would send you to adult education facilities. I remember at one stage, half of my class being sent to adult Ed facilities and never hearing from them again. Some good kids, mostly 'lost causes'. This has probably been the longest review you will ever read but I would write a trillion more just to make sure that no more good people lose themselves here. I wish I could have gotten out of this poverty, crime, cycle, but I wasn't fortunate enough. I was never given enough opportunities in my life here. So if I can give anyone reading just ONE opportunity, it would be advice. This advice. NEVER EVER, EVER, EVER, move here. This district is the Detroit of Australia and it is where dreams and dreamers go to crawl up and die. The only reason I wrote this review, is because it's 3:30am in the morning and every night I cannot sleep because there are rats in my walls. I am a clean person, I'm actually borderline OCD, but everyone I know has the same problem with rats. And I am SICK, OF, THE, POVERTY. I just count myself lucky because people are doing it worse in the world, with no roof at all, with no clean water. But, this way of living is bad as well.

Hi Kiara, I agree with your comments and hope you're okay. Your review is well-written and honest. Please hang in there. When approaching retirement in 2014, I looked around for a place to buy (using Super and every resource I had). After driving around Woodridge/Logan Central, decided against buying there as it was quite a frightening place. Admittedly Logan City Council are trying to improve the place, but drastic social surgery will be needed to seriously make a difference. I'm not talking about persecuting unemployed people. Injection of funds to improve education and job training in these areas will be more productive than the current 'punishment' methods. I eventually found a small house in a safe area (still in the Logan area) - mostly rentals here so I won't say where as currently the area is SAFE. I agree about the trains, but that is the BEENLEIGH train service. If coming from Brisbane on this train, once you get past Coopers Plains station, people get on who make you feel unsafe (prowling up and down the carriages, eyeing you off in a predatory manner). There are fewer people on the train at this stage and females sitting alone are very vulnerable. However the GOLD COAST/AIRPORT train service is fantastic - crowded but safe. Better to live near one of the stations on the express line - Loganlea or Beenleigh. All the best.

woodridge is woodrige. Its in its DNA for crime and violance for over 40 yrs. The place started with housing commission homes for low social/income families who have produced children who fall in the same categories. The children end up going to woodridge state school . when you check the site MY SCHOOL the school has a very poor outcome. The children end up meeting there future partner at this school. most end up parents before the age of 18 . You tend to see history repeat itself. I cant see it changing . low social /income families need cheap rent and good infrastructure.

Where do I begin with this amazing suburb. Fantastic tourist attractions such as the Woodridge shopping center and McDonald. Cheap affordable living but also appeals to the extremely wealthy. The suburb feels clean overall. The train station is the safest train station in Logan. People who live they are genuine and amazing. Not to mention Darren Haynes himself from Savage Garden lived there.

Houses feel really nice and modern, never problems with pests or pets. The only bad thing about living here is you will never want to leave it's brilliant. 10/10

"Worst place in Australia"

Firstly, I would just like to say to anyone who lives in Woodridge and read this, to not take it personally as I am only giving an honest review of this suburb from my own experience, you may disagree with my following comments all you want but they are based on real life experience of the area.

I get paid to travel all over Australia, it's what I do best and over the last 10 years, I've been able to visit many places throughout Australia, from the worst of the worst to the best of the best and I am sorry to say this but Woodridge has to be one of the worst I have ever lived in. Don't get me wrong, there are truly some lovely people in this area who I have had the pleasure of speaking to but that is as nice as it gets.

In the short time of 1.5 years that I have lived in this area, I have never witness so much crime and pain. I'll make a simple list for my reasons of a 1.5 year period.

1. Car broken into 4 times... INSIDE A GARAGE
2. 238 domestics anywhere from 3pm to 3am
3. Witnessed 23 public assaults on children
4. Husband attacked 12 times coming home from work by gangs (4 of those times in hospital)
5. Have had someone attempt to rob me during the day in a busy area while holding my new born.
6. Have been followed home by groups of men 3 times.
7. Consist drug dealings
8. Walking out in public with children who always witness people swearing out loud and disrespecting one another.
9. Someone tried to break into my home when I was alone with our children in the early hours of the morning, luckily our neighbour spotted him and scared him away.... but you never feel safe again.
10. murders have taken place close by
11. attempted kidnapping of my children
12. Children running around the street at all hours kicking over other peoples rubbish bins and generally just destroying whatever they get their hands on... day or night.

That is my list and many of you who live in this area and love it.. I'm happy for you but for me.... I cannot stand this area and I cannot wait to move out once my job is done. Oh and just for the record, I live on what is considered one of the 'nice' streets.

I would seriously urge anyone who cannot afford to live else where to do some serious research on this area and buy lots of locks.

Not great for

  • Can be dangerous
  • Creeks and some shopping areas are untidy.
  • Poor quality tenants
  • Awful dodgy, crime, weird people
  • Highway traffic

It sounds like this family collectively are a crime magnet or this is a work of total fiction.
witness to 23 child assaults , husband attacked /bashed 12 times , own children attempted abductions , i should think which such an extensive portfolio of crime involvement the writer or family would have to be looking forward to spending the next five years full time in court as prosecution witnesses.
most certainly i would not be waiting for your job to be done , if things are as bad as you have described , there is know way on this earth i would be sitting waiting patiently to leave ., as you have said Travel is what you do best so why not take your expertise and flee for the sake and safety of your family.
doesnt make a great deal of sense really.

Shiiea007

Another problem with people from this area. Instead of simply allowing people to make their own judgements or state their own facts, they are brought up in such a manner where they do not accept anything to be true unless of course it agrees with them. These are the sort of people who you want to be seen around.

Shiiea007

Further more, I do not need to flee as I now have my own police guard for the job rather filing many complaints with my company. We are more than safe now.

I too think that it is unbelievable that all of these things happened to one person in their lifetime let alone in a few years no matter where they live. Come on is this a joke

WOW, you must be the unluckiest person walking the planet. Perhaps you should try a new planet to live on. I simply don't believe that you have been subjected to so much and still alive.. What a load of crap.

NinaS

Please don't attack Shiiea007. One can easily verify what she said about ...

In the 2011 Census the population of Woodridge is 12,787 and is comprised of 50.5% females and 49.5% males.

The median rent in Woodridge is $250 per week and the median mortgage repayment is $1300 per month.

NinaS

It does pains me to see all the positive speakers of Woodridge here having to defend what can't be defended, police crime stats can't lie, or can it?

Now here is the interesting part from the QLD crime stats site. I will add two other neighbouring surburbs for comparative purpose. Crime related incident records based on 3 months period from 25/10/2014 to 25/10/2014 - Runcorn 4113(161), Woodridge 4114(329), Regents Park 4118(121).

Simple maths will then tell you if maybe police reported incidents are down 50%, then maybe the house prices in Woodridge would go up 100% to similiar comparative brackets of those in Runcorns and Regents Park?

Now we know crime rate and number of police reported incidents alone doesn't completely determine the house prices of an area. A look in Sunnybank 4109(316) would otherwise tell us it should be close cousin to Woodridge, but it doesn't, houses in Sunnybank are instead similar to those in Eigh Mile Plains. This we all know is due the the Chinese factor but, this is another story, another suburb for another day. We just want to talk about Woodridge here only, right?

NinaS

Hey the date on comments are not shown on this site? Why? Anyway...

HB1

Hey dumbasses, what she said is true. the morons spruiking about how amazing Woodridge are must be real-estate shills. Let me break it down for you.....in the period while I lived there as a uni student (broke and couldn't afford better). I witnessed multiple drug deals, had my father in laws house one street away from mine broken into 3 times, once where they threatened to assault my mother in law. My partner and I had several unsuccessful attempted break ins until our very nice drug dealing neighbours put a stop to it as it was bad for business every time I called the cops. Another lovely story was of the young mum pushing her child in a stroller down the street, when a guy with a sawn off shotgun came up and shot her. What a lovely area to take one of those strolls mentioned in the first place. I also happen to now be privy to information on the true crime statistics and parolee's that frequent and live in the area. There are many many many violent offenders on orders within the community. Likewise there are several well known child molesters and my favourite would be the most recent double homicide where a young couple were unspeakable tortured and tied up in boxes then thrown into the water by a group of drug dealing locals who decided they had it coming. this was only in March 2016. so please feel free to move there, but have good security and bloody big dogs.

tishb

Yes, all the customers that come to our Underwood store to steal are from Woodridge, they tell us so.. like making conversation will distract us from what you are doing. They corrupt their children and steal in families, the parents distracting while the poor children steal. It's so sad. Sounds crazy but it's sadly true. 3/4 of them are if their face on drugs. I really feel bad for them.

"Maybe a little biased due to nostalgia...."

Spent a lot of time in Woodridge growing up as my grandparents owned a town house there. Beautiful area, like most of Queensland. Very nice community, a lot of older people. Everyone seemed very friendly. Plenty of stuff to do as it is close to everything. House prices are very modest considering the area and what it offers. Some people complain of crime, or dodgy people. I have never experienced this, however I do not visit very often anymore as my grandparents have passed. I would definitely recommend Woodridge as a lovely place to retire, or for young families to live.

"Not the best looking, friendliest or intelligent people"

I don't get how this suburb is rated so highly on this site. This site has got to be flawed and the people commenting may be on the wrong planet. I grew up here and spent most of my adult life here. I can't believe I was able to dodge the drugs and criminal charges through high school. I was one of the very lucky/rare few that were able to do a 360, and work hard to and get myself a job. Subsequently earning myself a ticket out. During my entire time there I never felt safe or trusted anyone. All i felt was pity and disgust. Crime is high (probably one of the worst in the state), Housing commission homes are a plenty. The police are flat strapped and crimes go unsolved. There's no way I'd bring my children up in that suburb.

Not great for

  • Poor community spirit
  • Great place for persons on welfare
  • Great place for mental health patients
  • Can be dangerous
  • Creeks and some shopping areas are untidy.
  • Awful dodgy, crime, weird people
  • Highway traffic
  • Poor quality tenants

i think the review says it all about the writer.
never been out of the shadow of the town hall clock , low self esteem, cant see the wood for the trees and definitely from his own description suffering from some form of paranoia.
sounds so much like a small town spoil t rotten kid.
i can assure the writer there is far far worse in australia than logan , to generalize an entire suburb in the manner that they have is grossly unfair upon the decent hard working people who do make that suburb their home and there are thousands and thousands of them.
how about a little balance instead of this negative diatribe from someone who it would seem has an axe
to grind.
perhaps a few weeks in the inner west suburbs of sydney or riverwood dodging bullets every night could see a slightly different perspective .
whichever way travel is one of the best educations , so get a few more klms under your belt mate and then perhaps you may realize there is things perhaps as not as bad as you have described .
to have brought peoples looks into the equation is a very sad testimonial to yourself .
i sincerely hope the people around you where you have chosen to live at present dont look down upon you as some sub standard form of humanity as you have apparently viewed those around you during your time in logan .
when you mention they are not the best looking people does this include members of your own family ? or only the peasants who had the misfortune of having come across your path.

selector1

I strongly disagree.. i Lived there for 5 years its a good suburb. its not dangerous! there is no drugs! there is a huge police station HQ in woodridge trust me there is alot of good police petrol in woodridge. demographics stats show most people are retirees and hard working and home owners. look on real estate sites show all houses neat and tidy with large rooms big yards and recently renovated. by saying woodridge is a dangerous area with heaps of drug dealers and crminals you are offending the majority of good people living there for many years. woodridge to me is 5 star and the bad reputation is history already.

Sonia1

It kind of makes me angry to read these glowing recommendations of Woodridge. I currently live in Woodridge and my next door neighbours are drug dealers. There have been police raids, but they continue to deal drugs. There are often violent confrontations, and death threats to be heard from the street day and night.
I wish I could afford to move.

Having said that I grew up in a different part of Woodridge that was quieter and safer. It really depends on which part of the suburb you live in, and although some parts are bad, it's no worse than any other low socio-economic area.

ShaunMartin
ShaunMartin

Wow, I never saw anything of this around Woodridge or any of the surrounding areas. I did see a car chase once, and my grandparents were broken into whilst they were away on holidays, but that was really about it. I don't doubt there are rough areas and bad seeds, but I think it is an inaccurate representation of the suburb as a whole. Just my opinion.

Shiiea007

I cannot believe the amount of people who disagree with this posting. I've lived here now for only a year and a half (we brought an investment property but with the first home owners grant, you must live in the place for a year before being able to rent it out), Woodridge is disgusting! I'm no snob, far from it however.. the amount of crime I have seen in only 1 year says it all. I live on what is considered the "nicest" street in Woodridge and even than, every night without fail there is a huge domestic with people yelling at every word under the sun at 3 am. I've had over the year 14 cars parked outside the street where I live and without fail, every single one of those I have spotted someone trying to break into it. I have called the police many times after witnessing someone trying to break into a car.. and their average arrive time is one hour, though there was the odd occasion they came within 20 mins of my calling. Don't get me wrong, there is some lovely people here, I've spoken to a few rare ones in the shopping centres but even than, 80% of the people in this suburb are horrid. Without fail, no matter where I go in this area, whether it be the local post office or any of the shopping centres, I always seem to witness some crime occurring, day or night. There is much more to say but I would just be going on and on and on.

couldnt agree more with the above , why people want to pay huge house prices for houses in other suburbs is beyond me , buy in logan , save a hundred grand , get a house that is built out of old australian , quality hardwoods , most of these homes were made to last , old style craftsmanship and solid , they just dont build like this anymore ,.
fantastic location central to everything , good roads , great people who work in all the stores , i have never had a bad service experience here and the store prices are cheaper than anywhere else in brisbane , one suburb across and you will pay vastly more for your groceries and for the most the service will not be a patch on what we get here.
genuine value and some of the best and nicest tradesman ,shop staff and service personnel i have encountered .
this is without doubt the best value suburb for young family's , dont throw your money away or make the banks richer , buy in logan and save bucketful's of your hard earned bucks

"Awesome suburb!"

Lived here for about 10 years. We have wonderful neighbours, lovely, quiet and tidy street. Very close to a number of large shopping centers, medical facilities, variety of private and public schools. Convenient and fast access to both M1 and Gateway Motorway - Brisbane CBD in 20-25mins (except during peak hours). A great choice of services you could possibly ever want/need - high speed cable broadband (18Mbps usually), gas, foxtel/optus cable tv and well organised public transport.
Brilliant place for young families, professionals and retirees alike. Also worth mentioning - this isn't a flood affected suburb, we sleep peacefully at night when is raining, unlike in some "posh" places.
We never had any of the issues a couple of other reviewers mentioned - we feel safe and comfortable living in Woodridge and as I've mentioned we have great neighbours. On the other hand when we lived in Rochedale and Sunnybank we did have break ins. So may be just those individual's experiences and I strongly believe they don't reflect the true image of Woodridge.

Flora
Flora

Why any of those areas? Woodridge isn't slum, nor is it full of unemployed people. My family is a working family, my neighbours are all employed (Brisbane CBD and Gold Coast commuters). I don't understand people like you, just keep grinding on with your outdated, stereotypical negative comments. To call Woodridge slum is complete drivel. If you didn't feel in danger in Mexico or West Africa, but you feel unsafe at Brisbane south side then you need help. Logan Hospital mental ward could be of assistance, but you may prefer to go somewhere more pretentious.

Woodridge is a slum. Have you ever driven past centerlink during normal work hours? the place is so fully you can barely step into it! The area is rubbish and so are most of the people living there. I'm sick of going out every day and being witness to some sort of crime! it disgust me!!

"Puzzled"

I am puzzled why Woodridge has a bad rap. Living here almost 2 years, I save a lot on petrol (not kidding) as all shops and other services (hearing aid, dental, medical, community centres etc) are very handy, I live on bus route and I see the buses going by very often with plenty of people in it. Shops are approx 1-2 kms away. Freeway nearby. Sales people at Logan Central always very friendly and down to earth. When I tell friends that I have moved to Woodridge, they give me looks and some have commented 'bad area' and after 2 years, I am asking why bad area? I feel the crime rate is lower here than at the Gold Coast. The multi culturals add a bit of diversity to the area.
I have seen some cities and towns with dirtier streets (including Melbourne).

"Dodgy and disgusting!"

DUMP! What are you ppl on? This suburb is awful! I rented there briefly and NEVER ever will I even drive through there. Dangerous, people always watching you when you go to the store. I was afraid my bag would be snatched or car broken into. And, the seedy dodgy people that live there, lets just say Frankston is Toorak for Woodridge. Forget it, if you can avoid living here, do so. I never had to call the police in my life prior to moving there, I was almost broken into twice and one of my cars got vandalized. I also lived in a street with a woman who was mentally ill, and would get severely intoxicated and then try to kill the neighbours children, and at night she would roam the streets half naked screaming obscenities at people. The police apparently couldnt do anything because she was certified ill and the house was owner occupied by her and technically she was not committing a crime. Either way, I would never ever ever live there.

If you lived anywhere where you have a certified mentally ill person as a neigbour you may still have those problems. There aren't any mentally ill people in Paddington, Ascot, New Farm or Stretton? I don't think people in Woodridge are any of those things you mentioned, sure there may be individuals who may need help, but to generalise like that is horrid.

mushlin

I know she was mentally ill because her son, ex husband and the police told us she was certified mentally ill but could do nothing to protect the residents of the street because she was an owner-occupier. She tried numerous times to run over the neighbors children, would run out in the middle of the night heavily intoxicated and under the influence naked....so yeh, please don't tell me about how awful my experience there was/ if you want to live there and live in an absolute dump of a place, with dirty streets, rubbish all over the car parks, and bogans walking round bare foot yelling out "how ya goin'" to their junkie dealers, then go for it. I certainly, will not subject myself to that ever again.

CurRtisCrRunk

hey , this place isnt that bad and i have lived here in the same house for 18 yrs since i was born , yes some of the people that live here are little feral gutter rats , and you get the occasional crazys but put that aside it isn't that bad of a place if your goin to be moving here find out how the neighbours are first , because you shouldnt judge someone before you know them , if you dont get involved with the wrong crowed then you wont have a problem just stick to your own and dont get involved in others dramas then you will be fine! Trust me i know ive been in the wrong crowed before and once they were being stupid and screwing me around and that i just cut them out of my life and everything has been fine ...... yes people think its a bad place but really it isnt , if you know the right people you will be fine , maybe you were in a "posh" place before hand but it isnt that bad if there are fights, you shouldnt judge till you know the whole story FIRST!

Shiiea007

As an overall, I would say Woodridge has to be one of the worst places to live. It is comparable to living in Sydney's dodgy southern subjects. I've only been here a year and without fail, every day I go out, I witness some sort of horrid crime taking place. Sure, there is the odd nice person but that's 1 out of 100. I am sick of this shitty area.. I cannot wait for our time to be up so we can leave this place! I would never send my children to the schools here... you don't want them mixing with what Woodridge has on offer.

ManwellaT

lilys4

However it is a suburb where a higher rate of these people live. The fact is these low socio economic suburbs have much higher rates of crimes. Very obvious. Low income earners = higher rate of crimes and drug offences which = an unsafe area. Woodbridge is a well known dump of a suburb.

I can see where peope are coming from when they put Woodridge down because you do hear the odd news about an act of violence. But you can't put a label on the suburb as every suburb has its bad streets and bad people!!.

What I can say is I see alot of changes in the area, and the location is very convenient for a lot of different types of people. The catholic school in the area is awsome, its full of the nicest people and the church is also brilliant.

The suburb has had a bad label on it for a while but I can see changes happening and as Logan City starts to boom in the future it will only become better and a great place for investors is soon coming so keep your eyes peeled.

You get more bang for your buck here in almost every way. Prices are affordable. There is a lot of new housing development under way, house prices are rising again slowly now which is a sure sign that things are growing and on the UP.

"Good and quiet place to relax, probably mislead by historical tales/reputation"

I have lived in Woodridge for nearly two years. It's a quiet and safe street, not to mention friendly neighbours. All the best and cheapest retailers are just a stone throw away: eg Bunning's Warehouse, Goodprice Pharmacy, Foodworks, BCF, Officeworks, The Cheesecake Shop. Ikea, Fantastic Furniture, Aldi, Super A Mart and the likes are less than 5 minutes drive. Not to mention 20 minutes drive or 10 minutes walk to the direct bus stop to the CBD, 2 minutes walk to the bus stop to Garden City, less than 30 minutes drive to Dreamworld, nearby train stations, great public library, parks. Also every weekend the Logan Central day market is great place to get real bargains and great family outing.

Utilities such as gas is great for cooking, cheap too. If internet access is important you have a choice of cable or ADSL2+, constantly getting speeds of more than 10mb+ since the exchange at Slacks Creek is nearby.

As with some of the reviewers had mentioned, I was also advised by 'people' to avoid Woodridge. I did my research such as Australian Beureau of Statistics, yes, it's got high unemployment; yes the income is lower than national average, yes it's got higher percentage of mixed nationalities - but to me many locals that I met have been friendly and very supportive of local businesess.

incredible access to trains , buses , doctors , hospitals ,schools , fifteen minutes to brisbane city by car and major hospitals with some of the worlds leading cancer research and procedures performed , in my view woodridge lacks nothing and is a fabulous place.

"The best of both worlds."

I live in a Townhouse in Woodridge near Karawatha forest and it's a very good place to live. Been there now for 3 years. I have the train station 5 mins walk away on one side and can escape into the tranquility of the bush if I walk less than 5 mins in the opposite direction. ( what a place that forest is ... magical !! ) The street I live on is quiet, houses and gardens well maintained, kids playing, people friendly, no hoons , no dogs barking , no mossies, (I hate mosquitoes) . There are 2 schools within walking distance also. Logan gardens are 10 mins walk from my door ; great for BBQs on a sunday afternoon aswell as enjoy a game of rugby league at Logan brothers ground behind the entertainment centre. There is also a soccer club within a few mins walking distance. When I was deciding to move into this area some people said that they would'nt like to live there
( based on misconceptions I suppose ) ; I am very glad that I did my own research and trusted my own instinct .... I am very happy here.

"Woodridge is great"

I work and have a business in the local area and have lived in Woodridge some years ago and I think this is a great suburb. You get all the amenities of other suburbs and the houses are far cheaper than in most other areas of South East Queensland. Since the local council and state government did the urban renewal program some years ago the area has gone from strength to strength. It is a largely multi cultural and family oriented suburb and provides some of the best value supermarket shopping around. It has easy access to the M1 freeway and the Logan motorway and also an excellent train service to the city and gold coast. As well the Logan City council chambers are located here and also the Logan Entertainment Centre which is brand new plus a large public library and lots of other facilities.
