Woods Street, Newport, VIC 3015

Woods street is one of the major attractive streets in Newport spanning from the Newport Football Ground to the Hobsons Bay College VCE campus. It does not have heavy traffic so it is a nice street to live in. A favourite street for joggers, walkers, strollers. Lots more foot traffic to/from the nearby college, a childcare centre at the corner with Laurie Street and the newly upgraded and attractive Newport Gardens Primary School. A small basic shopping strip is at the intersection with Challis street. It is within walking distance to the Newport train station and it is very well serviced by buses in it or nearby Maddox Road and Mason Street. Newport Lakes park and the Jawbone Reserve wetlands are a short distance away. It is a wonderful place to get about from if you have a bike or like to walk.
Mostly owner occupiers live here. New developments replacing older existing homes have been of a high quality and sympathetic to the neighbourhood character. There are the one or two eyesores among the lovingly kept homes, you know, the high, antisocial ugly fences, hopefully these will be gone soon. The council does not do a very good job with tree plantings in this street, prunus and she-oaks predominate, however home owners have compensated by council's poor choice by planting attractive shade trees, native shrubs and grasses to make the footpath more attractive. I've lived here for more than 20 years and enjoy that it is quiet but I can jump in the car and be in the CBD under 20 minutes, "retail therapy" or the beach in Willy is a 5 minute car drive away. That's cool.
