"Lovely suburb with great facilties."

I have visited Woodvale regularly from nearby suburbs as I run a girls club at the Woodvale Baptist Church. I have visited the two shopping centres frequently as well as the library and parks. Yellagonga Regional Park is great for a walk or cycle. We have some wonderful members in GB from Woodvale who enjoy their local schools and neighbourhood. New members (from any suburb) are always welcome at Woodvale Girls' Brigade. We meet wekly in the Activity hall at the back of the church on Woodvale Drive.

"Great Suburb"

Moved here a few years ago having lived in a few different suburbs. This place has a great community feel. It has excellent schools , a friendly local pub, nice walks and several good recriation areas. It is also well located for the shopping of Joondalup, and for public transport into the city, and is only a 10 min drive to the beach. I got involved in the community with Woodvale football club (through my kids team) and in some of the school events and I have found the people really welcoming. What more could you want?

"Family friendly and safe suburb"

I've lived in Woodvale with my family for over 12 years and it's a fantastic suburb to raise a family in. It has great amenities and I can definitely recommend the local pub and restaurants. It's a well kept leafy suburb with a good community spirit and only a 10 minute drive to the beach. I would definitely recommend living here.

"Great family friendly, clean and safe suburb!"

Fantastic suburb!
We've lived here for three years and have never experienced or whitnessed any of the issues mentioned re teens or hoons in the previous reviews. It's a very safe suburb where I've let my kids walk around alone without fear of anything happening to them. Great selection of shops, a library, good schools, parks and a great pub, restaurants and takeaways.
It's a great suburb to raise a family in and which isn't too far from "everything."
In short, I'd recommend Woodvale to anyone if they were moving to Perth and looking for a good suburb to rent or buy and settle in.

The only downside is that houses here are a bit more expensive than other suburbs to rent or buy.

"Great place to grow up in"

Woodvale is a very good suburb for those wishing to raise a family! I grew up here and I have fond memories as a child living here. Has everything you need such as shops, libraries, is a 15 min drive to the Beach, is a 25 min drive to the city, great public transport options, has great parks and schools as well! I'd recommend living here if you are looking at living in a place which is close to everything you could ever want but don't want to pay the same prices as the suburbs South of the River or the ones right on the beach such a Hillarys.

"Fantastic Hidden Gem"

My family have lived in Woodvale for over twenty five years now, and I would happily recommend it as a safe and inviting suburb for both young and established families.

Compared to nearby suburbs, Woodvale has high quality houses with well-maintained gardens and leafy streets. There is a strong sense of community a lot of the older residents have lived here for 20-30 years and wouldnt think of leaving. For younger families, the large block sizes and well built homes are being taken advantage of, with many properties undergoing well designed renovations.

The best aspect of Woodvale, in my opinion, is the abundance of parks and retained bushland which is incredibly rare in the northern suburbs. The Yellalonga National Park which takes up almost half of the suburb is in particular an amazing asset, with walking trails and a fantastic lake for dog walking / exercise / family picnics etc. A number of the streets in Woodvale Waters front onto the parklands, and have spectacular easterly views over Lake Joondalup.

The suburb is well connected, with easy access to both Edgewater & Whitford train stations, and it is right on the Mitchell Freeway (on a good day it's a 20 minute drive into the city, at worst 35 minutes). There are two decently sized shopping centres locally, and the Whitford City & Joondalup centres are ten minutes drive away. Hillarys Boat Harbour and the beach are a short 15 minutes drive.

I have never experienced any of the issues with teenagers and hoons listed in some of the other reviews below and found them very out of character with my own experience.

"Jewel in the Northern Suburbs"

We have moved around the northern suburbs looking for the right place to live (good schools, easy access to amenities etc) and Woodvale is by far one of the better areas we have seen. "Great suburb full off poms, good neighbors, not to far to beaches and shopping malls"

Woodvale is close to all amenities and great schools. plenty of open space. Most houses and gardens are well maintained, which makes it a good place to buy a house because the resale value is good. Rentals are very expensive compared to other adjoining suburbs. Easy for teenagers to get themselves around on public transport. I travel all over Perth daily and see most suburbs and meet the residents and I'am glad I live in Woodvale. The downside is it's expensive to buy but you get what you pay for.

"Perfect for young families"

We have been in the area since 96 and love it here. We moved into the Crest Estate when we had a family and havent looked back. Values of the homes in woodvale generally but particularly in Woodvale Crest and Woodvale Waters Estates remain strong due to the good interest of people wanting to move in here. And rightly so, with the fantastic community spirit which you dont find many other places. As for the comment below about hoons and gangs... Yes, occasionally you see or hear some knucklehead hooning, but I dont know of a place that doesn't happen and we for one certainly have never seen gangs and have never heard of properties being trashed.

North Woodvale Primary is fantasic, Prinicpal and Teachers take a vested interest in the kids' education and add to the community spirit. Local Shops and restaurants are good and its only a short drive to the local major shopping centres and most importantly, Bunnings!

"Hoon Central"

I've been around Woodvale for a good 8 years and Ive never seen a suburb with so many noons, gangs and teenage dropouts.

Woodvale itself is actually very nice (still a little too far from the city) and very leafy, but for some reason the teenage trash element just keeps hanging around.

I certainly wouldn't feel safe going for walks at night (I have frequently seen teen gangs of 10+ people) and friends who have had their property trashed.

Maybe in another 15 years?

Interesting, we have been here and Kingsley for the past 20 years and never seen "gangs" Yes, teenagers get around but never seen nor heard of anything like you are talking about...

Have lived in Woodvale for 9 years with 2 kids in great schools. Walk the dog most nights after 8 o'clock until about 9 o'clock and have never seen or heard any trouble. Dead quiet at night . Joins dissapeared with the mining boom. Have absolutely nothing to complain about in this perfect suburb. House prices are going up in pockets that have sub division rights. Great time to buy here now

"We Love Woodvale"

We are a young family and love everything about this beautiful suburb. The School (NWPS) is fantastic and the teachers are a very committed group of professionals. Shopping is good and major centres only a few minutes drive away. We make a lot of use of the local parks and cycle paths and keep outdoors & the neighbourly spirit in our area is the fantastic. Perfect place to bring up our family :)

"It's Great To Be Back In Woodvale!"

It is so nice to be back in the heart of Woodvale - everyone is so lovely and has made us very welcome. Because of the low rental percentage, the majority of homes are owner occupied and are well maintained. I love selling homes in Woodvale - nice properties and nice clients - what more could we want? People are so reluctant to leave the area - when that upgrade or downsize, they want to stay in Woodvale.

The abundance of parks and services, not to mention the reputation of the schools in the area, make this an ideal suburb to raise your family in. Woodvale is very convenient - sandwiched between Whitfords and Edgewater train stations and a short car ride to several excellent shopping centres.

The local shops are brilliant too! In terms of restaurants and takeways we are spoilt for choice!Fabulous Chinese, Indian, Thai, Italian and the famous Woody's Pizza - a world of culinery delights at our doorstep!

At the heart of Woodvale sits the Moon and Sixpence - a popular pub that creates a little taste of home for our English residents. Live entertainment and hearty food, draw loads of regulars! Our 7 day shopping centre means that you'll never run out of fresh and tasty food. My local hairdresser is there too - The Cutting Garden - the girls there are gorgeous! Tell them Julie Ormston sent you!

I lived in Woodvale for a quarter of a century (yes I am that old!), my kids all went to school here, my youngest is in his final year at Woodvale Senior High School. I'd like to say thanks to all the wonderful people that live and work here and make it such a sensational suburb!

If you have any real estate queries or want to know what is happening in the Woodvale market, please pop in and see us at Julie Ormston Realty - we're in the Woodvale Shopping Centre, between Margaret's Ironing Centre and Indulge Day Spa.

"Great Suburb"

We live in Woodvale Crest Estate www.woodvalecrest.com.au and enjoy the feel and spirit of the neighbourhood. It took a long time to get in here, as houses rarely come up for sale but we are very happy with the move. We have made great frends and so have the kids. Any very occasional disruption is far outweighed by the great community spirit.
