Wynyard, TAS 7325

Pretty town geographically but people make a place.
This town houses some mediocre types and if you aren't fifth generation low socio economic then you are out.
Nice to visit and nice to leave.

Firstly it is on the estuary of the Inglis River so is terrific for fishing, water sports, jet skiing and canoeing. Secondly it is surrounded by seacliffs and beaches to the north and rural & wilderness on the other sides. It swarms with walking trails from riverside boardwalks to rough mountain hikes in the hinterland. It is very safe except in the hight of summer when tiger snakes may be encountered in the bush areas. October is the time to visit for the town is ablaze with spring blossom, especially nearby Table Cape which featured better tulip fields than Holland (or at least nearer and cheaper!). During the Tulip Festival there are carnival events and you can walk freely in the tulip fields to marvel at the glorious colours.
Wynyard is a super place for retirees as the township is on flat land and all is elderly friendly. There is a profusion of activities for older citizens - over 100 regular hobbies, clubs, games and interests. Work can be found in nearby towns such as Burnie and the children are well catered for with all levels of child care and schooling. Teens keep busy with skate park, scuba diving, water activities, riding and biking. There is some minor vandalism but almost no crime.

Fabulous little town for all walks of life. Great pubs, clubs and cafes. Wynyard is lucky to have good primary schools (public and private), high school with good bus services (20minute drive) through to Burnie for colleges/university. Locals enjoy seaside living, fantastic beaches, (with beautiful boat harbour beach only 10 min drive away) and the popular walking tracks along the Inglis river. Golfers are in paradise with the choice of 2 courses (18 hole or 9 hole) both have seaside views. The Wynyard golf course at Fossil Bluff is beachfront and the outlook is breathtaking. Wynyard is proud to have its own airport (named "Burnie/Wynyard airport") with many flights in and out daily.

It is flat, so great opportunities for bike riding.
Main street has been recently updated and looks great
Vandalism in the main street can be a problem
Fantastic walking tracks, including right along the beach and the river
Choice of schools is either public or Catholic private. Travel available to nearby suburbs for Christian based private education
Wynyard beach itself is ok for swimming but lots of rocks, but nearby Boat Harbour Beach is one of the best in the state.
Little public transport, a car is much more convenient
Large range of cafes but not many restaurants for night time dining. Local pubs offer a great choice of menu though
A few reasonable shops, lots of choice for hairdressing, lots of second hand stores, and local markets and farmer's market are becoming very popular with fantastic range of different wares. Serviced by a large chain supermarket and a smaller independantly owned one.
Some good local GP's and ambulance station is in town
Road between Wynyard and Burnie is dreadful, and unfortunately necessary to travel for larger needs, employment, and the hospital. Very limited passing opportunites, so if you're stuck behind someone doing 60km in a 100km zone, prepare to be late.
