Reviews of Yallambie, VIC

"Yallambie - Melbourne's last great secret"

A rare, affordable eastern suburb. Yallambie is close to the Eastern Freeway, great public schools, handy to numerous shopping centres and top hospitals and medical facilities. You can walk to the train station at MacLeod. It's a small, quiet pocket - formerly army homes now being gentrified, and bordered by the Simpson Army Barracks. Low crime rate, family friendly & a good location for LaTrobe Uni students.

Looking for a home in Yallambie?

"I agree - its a gem!!"

I read the reviews and can certainly say that its true - Yallambie is a secret haven for young families. You can afford to live her on one income (just) and are striking distance ot the city... easy living!!! Also I love that you can get to the airport in 22 minutes door to door, seriously! And the city and the airport are both toll free. That makes it great for relatives to get picked up.

I love it here. All the homes have a back yard and the land blocks have no overlays or restrictions on building in this area which means if you need to chop a tree or plant one then you just do it - no council premission needed. The parks are perfect and plentyful and everything seems set up for young children. Extremely safe and welcoming. Our neighbours surprised us with a welcome champagne and flutes on the day we showed up to to take the photo next to the SOLD sign. And the happy little enclave continues with all neighbours around us having kids and being at the same stage of life.

Great for

  • Safe
  • Low traffic, usually local only who mostly have young kids so no hoons.
  • Near La Trobe Uni
  • Friendliness
  • Shopping (Greensborough)
  • Wildlife

Not great for

  • Can be too relaxing

"Lovin' it"

Yallambie is the safe, friendly place I didn't think existed so close to the city.

The wildlife is fantastic (cockatoos, galahs and magpies everywhere) and my children and I have become quite avid birdwatchers.

There are two primary schools within a few minutes of my home, and so many families living locally that it is easy to carpool and share the load of looking after kids with each other.

Talk about friendly! On moving into my place my neighbours organised for a welcoming party, and they all gave us gifts. My partner was pregnant, and of course there were offers to look after our kids in case she needed to be whisked away in the middle of the night.

Great for

  • Wildlife
  • Shopping (Greensborough)
  • Friendliness

"How does this place stay hidden?"

I moved to Yallambie about four months ago and I can't believe what a hidden jewel I discovered.

My place is only 17kms from the city, and I cycle to work sometimes. More commonly I cycle to Watsonia Station or catch a bus to Rosana Station, and catch the train.

There are galahs nesting in my front yard and magpies in my backyard and apart from them it is dead quiet most of the time.

It is only a 10 minute drive to either Doncaster Shoppingtown or to Northland and a two minute drive to Greensborough Plaza shopping centre.

Already I have talked one of my friends into considering buying a place here, and no doubt others will follow.

Rentals in Yallambie

"Suburban Haven"

A little hidden gem.
Nestled between greensborough, macleod and montmorency - most people dont know where it is!!
I was worried when i moved here that it would be too boring and suburban, but honestly it so relaxed and i sitll do what i used to do (maybe 10mins more travel!)
Mintues to the western ring road is so convenient.
The greensborough district is under redevelopment which is a great draw card.
Safe, quiet and friendly.
Its literally 20 - 35mins to anywhere you want to get to in Melbourne!!
Macleod, watsonia and rosanna station are all under 5mins away.
Wonderful parks, walking tracks if that is your interest, loads of families with dogs - on leash council - not sure about the parks etc.
While not a huge range of resturants in yallmabie - greensborough 4mins, lower plenty 3mins, rosanna 4 mins and burgandy street is 6mins away --- cant complain about that!!!
Northland and Doncaster shoppingtown are both 15mins away which is wonderful for some Serious retail therapy.
Great schools in the area.
fanastic location.
