Rates vary depending on the size of the block and the assessed 'capital improved value' which is basically how good the home on site is. Council use the 'net annual value' (which is 5% of the capital improved value), multiply that by 2.5% approx to determine the rates. Added to that will be a charge for garbage pick up and the Government's fire services levy. As a guide, on an average block size of around 600sqm, you'll pay closer to $2,000 per year, but this will increase with block size or a higher valued home on site. Hope this helps.

We pay about $1200 per year for a house on a 380m2 block.
