We're seeing lots of great looking properties in Templestowe. However, we've not yet gained any real idea about the school choices locally and would appreciate the local perspective.

TEMPLESTOWE COLLEGE ...

I am considering Templestowe College for my daughter who is in Year 5 , as she is not fulfilling her potential at a mainstream Government Primary School. She has an above average I.Q however has sensory issues and struggles in an environment of rowdy boys (her current class). She also performs well in topics of interest as she possesses an intense focus. She is popular among peers as she is strong in dance and sport however prefers performing arts as well as possessing strong leadership skills; she thinks outside the box and has high energy, compassion and 'fair mindedness' . She is an alpha female and the teachers do not appreciate her in the same way her peers do, as she competes with the boys and is loud and outgoing however works well in a serene environment. I am deciding between an ILP style school such as T.C or an all girls school where she could facilitate her 'alpha' skills free from the sexism at her current school. As I will be moving to the Templestowe area late this year any recommendations for a primary school for her final year would be greatly appreciated- I'm also considering Preshil.

Serpell Primary School would have to be the best school in Templestowe. It is known as being one of the largest and best primary school's in the state. Being a past student there myself, it is safe to say that the infrastructure, curricular activities and education that this school provides is second to none. Being an agent in the area myself, it is evident that many people are starting to choose to live near this school in order to send their kids to some of the best education provided. The heirachy at the school is currently in discussions to make Serpell Primary School "zoned" according to their recent impressive Naplan Results. This means that the school will need to be the closest primary school to your primary residence in order for "first priority" of being selected as a student there. This is now vital!

While I am biased towards St Charles Borromeo on Serpells Road, I do know some parents choose to look slightly outside of Templestowe, to areas like Donvale. Look into Our Lady of the Pines and Milgate Primary.

Sorry Jason but I cannot agree with you at all about St Charles Borromeo. Although my daughter went there years ago now the academic standard of what I would expect from a private school fell well short of where they should be. I ended up transferring my daughter out just after 2 years of being there. The Better Education website shows their results which speak for themselves. My youngest daughter goes to Serpell Primary School now and I cannot fault it for academic excellence. It is one of the top schools in the state year after year which is just an amazing achievement. You wouldn't know it is a public school with all the opportunities on offer there it is just like a private school and Internationally accredited on top. I wouldn't waste my time looking at any other school other than Serpell.

Both my boys go to serpells & I do agree it is a great school if your child is academic. If not with 29 kids in ea class it's very hard for the teacher to attend to the kids that are not academic. These kids unfortunately get left behind. There are no programmes for these kids for further learning. Their recovery programmes stop in grade 2. One of my sons is academic so this school suits him. my other son he isn't & the school doesn't cater for him. All I keep hearing from teachers is "he is where his meant to be" . Iv had him assessed & he isn't even close. It's an international school. It gets a lot of funding & that's one of the main focuses. I do reccomend this school if your child is highly academic but if not they will get left behind. I chose this school as my first born showed signs of being a higher achiever & naturally you dont think twice where the 2nd child goes but I do regret sending my 2nd child there.

St Charles Borromeo is a fantastic primary school for kids. My nephew goes there and loves it. There aren't however many great high schools in the area unfortunately. One of the negative aspects of Templestowe.
