What are the best family friendly suburbs around Brisbane?

My family have found there is not much for us in Darwin anymore after living here for 7 years. The town is small and not growing quick enough for our liking, and my sibling and I are mature teenagers, wanting to explore a larger city with more to offer. My family are looking to rent a property in Brisbane's surrounding suburbs before we buy. A suburb not too close to the buzz of the city but easy enough to get there would be ideal. One of the newer suburbs of Brisbane would be preferable, being safe and family friendly, with a nearby senior school s well. North Lakes was considered, but we learnt though reviews of the suburb that public transport was not reliable, which would also be ideal for us teenagers. Suburb suggestions would be very appreciated. Thanks! (We are open to all directions, NTH, STH, EST, WST).
