"Iconic view from the North Rd"

Thanks to Williamstown and Yarraville reputation, Newport has been kept as a well hidden gem, mistaken for Altona West and luckily attracting professionals and young families to it's nest :)in last 5 years as the prices are not that high (well, hm , hm for that)... 10 minutes to all the cool spots that Melbourne has to offer, we love it! We used to live in Yarraville (5 years) and didn't find the trucks fun anymore, and when opportunity knocked , we bought our home on North rd. Just seeing the view toward the city over the river when you are standing on the North rd-it's a breathtaking, and then ship passes by...well it's nice to know you own a peace of that view!
Love the proximity to the train station, there is Yoga centre, Nosh caffee,Junction hotel got facelift.. on the other side of the train there is the Substation(artists market) and toward The Strand there is cool cafe " The Pint of milk"... All in all not to shabby and few minutes from the beach, parks city, shops and public transport :)
  • easy trafic for a wide road
  • great neighbours
  • clean and leafy, close to the trainstation, close to The Strand...

AdamS Hi Robbo,

Any other comments? What were the neighbors like? What were some of the positive aspects of living here.

peaceandlove Maybe it was busy in 2009- when this comment was made ( I don't know, i moved to North rd, few years ago)... :)andI love North rd, so I have to disagree with outdated Robbos's comment. :).
Byrnecore PeaceandLove, perhaps you may love it because you are used to the trucks of Yarraville. I dont think it is all that busy either and I lived two streets away from some 25 years. Although I do think the traffic has picked up in the last few years. North Road is the main through road to get to the shore from Williamstown road. Specifically in summer. You can have everyone going for their lovely summer drives during these lovely weekend summers day and that includes hoons with hotted up cars and loud sound systems. Though I think this is a symptom to anywhere with a beach or coast line. It's never really bothered me.

That all said, I feel the location far outweighs the negatives of the area and winter is lovely as traffic is rather low. However, not as low as some of the other streets of the area, though again, north road is a main through road. so it's to be somewhat expected.

As for the residents, they are great, Everyone has a passion for life and tends to take care of their houses and thus making the area look relatively pleasant. So if you can find a rough nut amongst the diamonds, it's always a good investment... if you're up for the work ahead of you. Newport generally has quite sandy soil and most older houses need re blocking... something to consider when investing.
