St Peters, NSW 2044

This is a great little suburb. The people here are friendly.

There are singles, couples and families with young children and teens.

There have been a few new breweries popping up of late and Newtown is a short walk away.

St Peters is close to everything without the hussle bussle and noise.
Great transport options and Marrickville Metro is within walking distance. 10 mins to Central by train. Sydney Park is in St Peters. Good schools are nearby.

After moving here from Surry Hills of where I lived for 5 years I purchased a property in the St Peters area. After hearing "ooh plane noise will get you!!" I must admit I was very weary indeed.
After however scoping the place out its not as bad as it seemed....The airport runs on a rotation hence you do not get to hear 'loud ' aircraft noise regularly. I took this in comparison after living near Cleveland and South Dowling St and can assure you that noise there can become unbearable with the constant traffic and I mean constant 24/7!! Without some aircraft noise St Peters streets are very quiet indeed compared to Surry Hills.

You have access to so much too , 2 Trains Stations, 1 Gym on Unwins Bridge Rd, Marrickeville Shopping Centre, Swimming Pool , 10 Mins walk to Newtown, 5 mins walk to Sydney Park and numerous parks round the area too...
Childcare facilities are in abundance as this I feel is a family area of the Inner West.
Currently house prices are reasonable and have I believe kept their value as other Inner West areas have sored. St Peters is a changing area with old houses being brought and renovated and has not reached its full potential granted......but neither did Surry Hills, Alexandria, Waterloo 10-15 years ago......and the new kid on the block Redfern and look at the transformation these areas are having .......

I believe its a hidden gem personally...aircraft noise..we got a curfew , go and live in other big cities then assess how much noise we really do have..St Peters has new property being built and after a year of searching for property to buy in the Inner West, this place gave me what I was looking for in term of price, value, convenience and resources.

Have lived here for 5 years and still cannot believe the value compared to surrounding Newtown, Alexandria. Still possible to get a renovated semi with small yard for $600000, same property would be $800000 in Newtown or Alexandria or $600000 for a small 2 bed unit in Redfern. Rents are very low for Inner West too. Plane noise is nowhere near as bad as people think...Sydenham is far worse. Plane noise is far less intrusive than living on a main road in places like Redfern and Alexandria.

The location of St Peters is fantastic. It is very close to City and Newtown and between two train stations (St Peters & Sydenham). Rent is often cheaper as are house prices when compared to other suburbs in the Inner West. Make sure that you get a place with double glaze windows, otherwise the aircraft noise can be deafening. Overall it is a good suburb but the council don't really look after it (Marrickville side) and the aircraft noise is its downfall.

My husband and I have lived in St Peters for two years, and have loved being a part of the culture here. The locale is close to almost everything, Newtown cafes, shops, parks, schools, public transport, airport, beaches and CBD. It is a great place to consider buying into as it is significantly more affordable than the adjacent suburbs of Newtown, Alexandria and Erskineville. The suburb is still industrial but if you can look past the occasional street/aircraft noise, you will be quite content living in St Peters. As an investor or home buyer, the return on your money would be profitable it is definitely set to rise and is listed as one of the up-and-coming hot spots of Sydney.

Update 2/7/13: If you are looking into this area. Take note. There is a master plan by Marrickville council called "St Peters Triangle". It was approved and adopted approx 10 months ago. The first wave of gentrification/redevelopment applications by developers started this year. Low density residential development in Hutchinson St (opposite to Simpson Park) and a large mixed commercial and residential apartments in May St (old Sandler shoe factory). After living in Alexandria for 7 years and watched old factories turn into cafes, shops, apartments everywhere. I'm starting to witness a similar thing happening to St Peters..albeit a little slower.



St Peters, Sydney is definitely on the rise. There was very little action 2.5 years ago but it's starting to pick up momentum. The sleeping giant is not fully awake yet, but the area has all the hallmarks of similar neighboring suburb such as Alexandria (Mixed residential and light industrial) which has seen significant growth in last 7 years. In the past 12 months, I've seen a few new developments from Apartments to Modern Terraces starting to pop up. People who are priced out of Newtown, Erskineville, Alexandria, Waterloo and Marrickville may want to consider this area. Why you ask? Here is a short list of amenities - $170 Million Marrickville Metro Mall redevelopment, Sydney's Flagship and largest Ikea in Tempe, City of Sydney biggest park (Sydney Park), Bunning's largest flagship store in NSW (near Sydney park), Sydney's biggest eat street (King st Newtown/Enmore) full of affordable restaurants and cafes, Sure there are cons such as some aircraft noise, light industrial but that's what gentrification is all about. Get in now before prices takes off like Alexandria Erskineville and Newtown. Watch this space!

St Peters is a great place to live being central to almost everything. With new buildings being built in the area including IKEA, new homes currently under construction and allot of renovation on existing dwellings being gentrified, the suburb seems to be attracting stronger values then previous years. They say that location is imperative for stronger values in residential real estate, so I feel that the suburb will continue to prosper in the years ahead.

I've lived here for just on 7 years and its changed heaps since we moved in. We were initially surrounded by Greek retirees but they've been moving away and young couples with or without kids are everywhere. We have heaps of friends nearby and ive made a heap of friends up at Sydney pk with the kids - Sydney pk, tilman pk and steel pk especially with the water play are great for our kids and marrickville council is the best by far. We've got grass, chickens and a dog - all things we wouldn't have if we purchased a unit in the east or balmain as we were considering. We will live here forever. St peters public school highlights how much it's changed - it nearly was closed five years ago and now hundreds flocked there for their fair day recently and it also has one of the few govt pre schools so it pays to be in this precinct for that alone with no decent child care in the inner west.
