Reviews of Willana Avenue, Hamlyn Heights
"Leave the car at home"
Willana Avenue is full of homes built in the 50's and 60's. Great for renovators, young couples and singles, or builders and developers. Running off of Vines Road which supplies you with a supermarket, chemist, post office, butcher, milk bar and others, while also having Bus services along Vines Road means you have everything at your doorstep.
Also boasts close access to the Ring Road for Melbourne Commuters.
A disused train line at the other end of the street also is used as a walking / cycling track.
A suburb on the up.

"Tranquility in a Suburb on the move!"
We bought in Willana Avenue 5 years ago, after having rented a house a few streets away. We were impressed by how quiet the suburb is at night, the location (genuine 5 mins walk to shops, close to schools, bus, ring road), and the size of the blocks of land. There are still quite a few original houses from the 1950's, which clearly need updating. However this will happen over time as more families move into the area - particularly with the new school being built just up the road (with the cycling path along the disused railway line providing a safe walking route for children). The blocks are a good size for developers to build units on, which appears to be happening to a lot of blocks with older style houses in need of major renovation. My only concern with the neighbourhood is very poor mobile phone reception, but hopefully this will improve as networks improve their technology. The street is very quiet generally, with surrounding streets more heavily utilised by through-traffic. We are now renovating as we are keen to stay, but the 1950's house needs some work!

"Very quiet street. Home to many retirees and couples"
I lived in Willana Ave around 15 years ago. It was a very quiet street with little traffic. A 3 minute walk to the local shopping strip was always handy. Also under one minute drive to local primary schools and Kardinia International College. Would now be a handy location if you worked in Melbourne with the ring road also only a couple of mins away if that. Back in 1995 Willana Ave was home to many aged single and retired couples. Never saw kids playing in the street as I don't think there were any. Always quiet and no evidence of crime. The railway at the end of the street is now not used as it was the track to the now closed cement works. Since the cement works closed the area has boomed with properties increasing in value rapidly due to better quality air and no fallout from the cement dust.
