6 time-saving tips to get organised after moving

Moving house has been ranked as one of the most stressful experiences in a person’s life according to the Daily Telegraph. Going through a divorce was the only life event found to be more stressful than moving, according to the study.

While the prospect of a new home is very exciting, the actual process can be arduous and take months of planning, organising and upheaval. Once you’ve moved into your new house, you’ll simply want to relax and enjoy your new home; here are our top tips for getting organised so you can settle in, unwind and enjoy your exciting fresh start.

Write everything down

Many things in your life revolve around your home and your address, which means that after you’ve moved, you’ll need to update all your personal, professional and government records with your new address to ensure you don’t miss out on any crucial correspondence.

On top of this, you’ll likely have many odds and ends to take care of and appointments, meetings and deadlines that you need to keep track of. With the stress of moving, it’s often these little things that can easily slip the mind. Make sure you don’t forget anything by writing everything down. A simple checklist, diary or calendar are all you need to make sure you stay on top of everything. The more organised you are, the less likely it is that you’ll miss something important and avoid adding more stress to your load!

Grocery shop online

There’s nothing worse than finally unpacking your last box of belongings into your new home, heading to the kitchen to make yourself a well-earned cup of coffee and realising you haven’t got any milk or food in. A trip to the supermarket can be stressful enough at the best of times, and battling through the crowds after a long day of loading and unloading is probably the last thing you want to be doing.

Instead, organise to have your groceries delivered to you, as a one off or on regular intervals. There are many online services that allow you to do your shopping from the comfort of your home. If you’re really organised, you can do your shopping online a week or so before the big move and arrange delivery after you’ve settled into your new home. If you haven’t been that organised and you’re already in your new house, order a takeaway for the first night and get your online shop done and arrange delivery for the next day so you can spend a full day unpacking.

Meal prep

When moving house, the thought of spending hours slaving away in the kitchen each night can be the last thing on your mind, and it’s easy to reach for something quick and convenient. This often leads to eating too much junk food that can make you feel lethargic and lacking energy. Take a couple of hours to meal prep instead. Design a few simple meals using the same key ingredients and prepare it all in one day. This may seem like too much of a fuss to be worthwhile, but trust us, it will free up some valuable time through the week for you to unwind and enjoy the comforts of your new home and neighbourhood.

Dry cleaning delivery

Wouldn’t it be nice if all of the little chores that we need to do each week disappeared when we were moving house? With so much on your plate, it can be hard to find the time to fit in your washing or rush back and forth to the dry cleaners.

Luckily, a lot of professional dry cleaners will take care of your laundry without fuss with cleaning and ironing services on offer. They come to your home to pick up your dry cleaning and return it to you at a time that suits your schedule. It’s the quickest and simplest way to offload your chores and tick another task off your ever-growing to-do list.

Hire a cleaner

Whether it’s giving your old property a final scrub or giving your new home the once-over, it seems like moving house and cleaning go hand in hand. Often this arduous task can take hours to complete and quickly zap your energy.

Instead, why not hire a professional cleaner who can take care of the task quicker and probably to a higher standard than you can? It will free up some of your valuable time for other tasks and prevent you from wearing yourself out too much!

Find a handyman

Assembling flat-pack furniture, rewiring your new doorbell and painting the walls are all tasks that inevitably have to be taken care of. If these areas aren’t your strengths, they can quickly mount more stress onto your shoulders. Luckily, these tasks can easily be offloaded into more capable hands. Sites such as AirTasker make it easier than ever to hire willing helping hands from your area to take care of all those odd jobs for you.

We hope these tips help you to save time and have a more seamless transition into your new home and lifestyle.

Thanks for the informative tips that will help in getting organised quickly after moving to another location. Relocating from one place to another is quite stressful, and the most tiresome thing after moving is to unpack everything and organising them properly in the new home. But nowadays there are many removalist companies that can easily help in moving everything from one place to another as well as unpacking the goods and organising them too. It is better to take professional help than moving everything on our own and getting stressed out.
