While I wouldn't say Albany Park is the safest neighborhood in Chicago, it's not half bad, and you could certainly do a lot worse. Uptown is a bit safer, as is Portage Park in my opinion. I'd keep a bit of distance from the Metra at night, but otherwise you'll probably be okay.

Most of Albany Park is pretty safe. There is some increase in misdemeanor crimes along Lawrence Ave. and Kimball Ave..
